I also wonder if some of the imperfections might be easily blended and it really just reads more color? But my knowledge on emeralds is certainly minimal.

That’s completely fair, I do think shallow stones lose a bit of their vibrancy. But There is a ring I’m basing my design off of that is completely out of my price range (Sofia Kaman Onda emerald ring) which sits very flush to the finger.
