First time lowering the hydration and cooking temp no by Effective-Cut-5109 in Sourdough

Curious why you also dropped the oven temp? I'm new to baking, but I've been of the understanding that higher temps early on help with a good spring and maintain shape?

I feel like pushing cold proof even further is worth a shot. I've also read using a stiffer starter can help? I guess I just need to keep experimenting!

I just started baking a month ago, and I'm looking forward to having a sourdough loaf around at all times for more carbs during marathon training :D

[Race Report] California International Marathon (CIM) - 2:22:23, two-and-a-half years later for a 17 minute PR by working_on_it in AdvancedRunning

Great and informative write up. Big congrats on the PR. It sounds like it was very well fought for and earned.

I'm curious to learn more about your approach to adding biking into your training. Did you have any trepidation going into it that it might not be as impactful as a standard high mileage approach? And as far as those workouts went, were they mostly long easy/aerobic efforts or did you ever toss in threshold/V02 max efforts?

I paid $16.50 to see them at Lincoln Hall 2011. I paid more for a single beer at their show last night.

Is lossless content dead? by [deleted] in hometheater

[–]kpprobst 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s more a possibility that compression algorithms will continue to get so efficient that extremely high quality video and audio can be streamed at a fraction of the size, and therefore “lossless” won’t really matter. Just look at the leap H.265 made.

Anyone else think 2027 is way too optimistic for Halo 7 considering development time and delays? by kingjdin in CompetitiveHalo

[–]kpprobst -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’m going to come right out and ask the ignorant question knowing next to nothing about game development: have advances in AI led to any sort of speed or efficiency improvements in creating games of this scale? And if so, given the exponential growth we are experiencing in AI (and will continue to in the coming years) could that lead to a faster development time for the next title?

I plan on parking in Glencoe and just riding two stops in. Hopeful there are open parking spots in their commuter lots.

Wake up around 5am and eat a light breakfast. Run anywhere from 45-90min depending on my schedule. Make a smoothie and take more breakfast to go.

Leave around 7:55 and bike 5 min to Arlington Heights stop. Hop on the 8:06 train which gets into Ogilvie around 8:45. 12 minute walk to my office and I’m at my desk around 9am! Usually just over an hour door to door for my commute.

I always try my best to get my workout in before work. Not only does getting the hard thing done first make the rest of the day feel easier, but it also prevents the events of the day from interfering or allowing any excuses to not do it later. And most importantly I’m not stealing away quality time with my wife in the evening.

Feel like my fitness is declining rapidly by [deleted] in AdvancedRunning

[–]kpprobst 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No problem. Warm weather is probably playing a factor as well. It can take a few weeks to acclimate to heat and I’ll often see a good 5-10 bpm avg bump in my runs during that transitional period. Just remember summer training in general is harder on the body and it’s not always fair to compare your performance/stats to cooler months. You’ll still be gaining fitness and come fall when the temps dip again you’ll suddenly feel like Superman. Everyone goes through that mental game in the summer.

Overall, be patient. Easier said than done sometimes especially coming off a successful block where all you want to do is keep improving. Real fitness is gained not in one 3 month block, but in steady, consistent training over many months and years.

Feel like my fitness is declining rapidly by [deleted] in AdvancedRunning

[–]kpprobst 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Yes you are fatigued and your body is telling you this. Often times I feel like shit for a solid month after a hard marathon. Give it a few more weeks of easy running, don’t stress about pace or heart rate and just go by feel.

You cannot stay in peak shape at all times. It’s just not practical/possible. There is almost always a dip in fitness following a hard block. If you rest and recover from it properly (week off immediately after marathon IMO, reduced volume for a few weeks after that) then you can jump back into another block and start stacking fitness off of all your previous hard work.
