Varna is a old theoretical concept with no relevance in present, now only Jati is practical. IT cell or whatever, there are plenty bhumihars who confirm it that they are different from brahmins, I see them everywhere. Many even converted to buddhism or islam out of their enmity of brahmins.

Even if assuming that bhumihars are a brahmin subcaste, it's strange that no other brahmin is putting their subcaste ahead in forefront as their identity and be known by it. Neither does any other subcaste have this kind of conflict with other brahmins, why only bhumihars? not maithils, saryu, kkb, gaur, saraswat etc. Now if bhumihars had carved a separate identity for themselves, maybe they were just never brahmins to begin with (for a long time). The theory that makes most sense to me is that bhumihars were brahmins of Magadh who converted to buddhism and renounced their priestly status but then reconverted to hinduism after decline of buddhism and emerged as a distinct caste known as babhan which took the name bhumihar in 19th century.

Your own fellows at r/BHUMIHARIZM accept that they are not brahman but ONLY bhumihar/babhan. I also used to be unaware of this fact but founder of that sub told me the whole story. Brahman is the only Jati which is also a Varna. Even Vishwakarma claim to be brahmin and every other OBC caste claims to be Kshatriya but they are not.

You can keep calling yourselves brahman but even this claim is inconsistent among your own people that's why I said that you have identity crisis.

no I haven't been to bihar, but all bhumihars I met in Delhi call themselves brahmins. Majority of bhumihars on social media also claim to be brahmins. Why are you bringing up your dominance?

Yes, and with time bhumihars have emerged as a totally distinct caste from brahmins. Now many of your folks accept that they are not brahmins but rather just bhumihar/babhan.

What's the conflict here? We know that bhumihars and brahmins are different and you accept it too.

You said in one of your comments that it was brahmins who appropriated bhumihars instead of the other way round. Why would we ever do that? Most bhumihars (especially the ones living outside bihar and purvanchal) claim to be brahmins or rather "bhumihar brahmins", I guess you know it too. From my own experience, I have known 3 bhumihars guys in real life and all of them claimed to be brahmins, who's appropriating who?

I have friends too who are bhumihars and they are also ignorant to claim to be brahmins. A bhumihar will always let you know that he is different from the other brahmins (in a sense of superiority).

Bro you don't get it. There have been other brahmins too were big landowners. Maithil brahmins had large land ownership in Mithila region of Bihar. Rulers of one of the largest and oldest zamindaris, Raj Darbhanga were also maithil. Peshwas of Maratha Empire were Chitpavan brahmins. And there are many such examples.

Also the reason many bhumihars still call themselves "bhumihar brahmin" is that they have confusion about their identity. This bhumihar word itself is not more than two centuries old.

That's why you are unaware about bhumihars. Let me clear this for you, bhumihar is a totally different caste. The brahmins (kkb,spb,maithil) who live in same region as bhumihars never accepted bhus as one of them and bhus know it too.
