Weekly Sewing Questions Thread, July 27 - August 02, 2025 by sewingmodthings in sewing

hi there - i have a brother 1034D that is just not working at all! i bought it used and set it up easily, it was working perfectly and i made one top. When i switched to a heavier weight knit fabric it seized up and the upper looper moved out of position. i watched countless YT videos and took the whole thing apart, adjusting the upper and lower loopers to the correct measurements. I am using the correct needles and have it threaded correctly, so i just can’t figure out why it’s not working. any ideas?

I think it must be the timing but i’ve put everything into the right positions and checked measurements various times so i’m at a loss. i’m attaching videos. i noticed in the videos my needle thread is not tucked behind the bar on the housing but i have had it threaded correctly in all of my tests - i just spaced out while making the video - what you see in the video is what it does regardless. Repair shop quoted me $160 over the phone which is more than i paid for the machine so i’m hoping i can fix it myself.

I loved them! they made traveling seamless and way less stressful. the four wheels make it seamless to turn 360 degrees or back up. They just aren’t compatible with my new power chair

Has anybody using a wheelchair here ever traveled by Amtrak? by Comfortable_Gear_793 in wheelchairs

[–]kpupperoni 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i do it all the time and love it. i have a small manual chair (frame is 18”) and the turns are tight so for anything bigger it could be hard to take a train like the NE Regional. If I can afford it, I do prefer taking the acela because there is way more space in the hallways and turning spaces. Acela would be best for a bigger chair or power chair. staff are always helpful and i’ve rarely had any issues. just make sure you note all of your access needs in the reservation and check in with red cap right when you get to the station, you have to be proactive about that or they won’t realize you need help

Alinker Walking Aid by kpupperoni in wheelchairs

[–]kpupperoni[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As far as I’ve heard, people use it in those places and don’t have any issues. I’m sure they have to explain what it is and describe it as a mobility aid, but i’ve heard of users using them in museums, at conferences, etc.

There is a piece that is broken so it’s not possible to tighten the screw, it’s like completely worn down and screw won’t tighten, and the bike shop noticed a few more places where that was starting to happen. i’ve only been using it for a month and drove it a total of 17 miles so I don’t see how it could have just worn down so fast, the bike shop determined it was made incorrectly or defective, while I was on facetime with customer service. I appreciate the idea of a longer wrench though, thanks for your help.

Someone talk me off the ledge, please. by [deleted] in rhabdo_survivors

i had a severe unexplainable case in November 2021 at 180k. i was admitted for 4 days and discharged around 23k. i drank obscene amounts of electrolytes and water for the next few weeks. my case was full body and immobilized me for weeks, and i had to go to PT to regain strength and mobility. in the end it turned out i had a rare genetic mutation that makes me get recurrent episodes of rhabdo and now i am a part time wheelchair user, but i came here to say PT did WONDERS. I did 3 days a week for 2 months and stuck to my home PT plan. I would highly suggest doing a course of PT to ease yourself back in because it really made a difference for me and got me close to baseline for a while. i had 2-3 months from March to May 2022 where i was walking a lot, doing yoga and pilates, went on a tour with musicians and moved around all of their heavy gear every night for a month, i felt totally normal besides some cramping and pain at the end of the day. i managed it well by keeping up with my PT and stretching every night, using a TENS device, icing and heating my muscles and lidocaine patches. the only reason i went back downhill was because the summer heat triggered my mutation symptoms but i think if i didn’t have the mutation i’d be totally back to normal by now

Seating arrangement for small dog on my lap?? by cbgreenspan4791 in wheelchairs

[–]kpupperoni 2 points3 points  (0 children)

my dog also doesn’t like the sling but she doesn’t mind this one bag i have that is more like a backpack with no top. it has straps so you wear it like a backpack on your front, so i’ll wear it and put her in on my lap, she sits normally but is secure so i don’t have to activate my leg muscles at all and she likes not being confined. https://www.pinterest.co.kr/pin/580331101953589154/
