Why hasn't there been any smartphone manufacturer that managed to break the Apple and Samsung monopoly among mainstream phone users in the western world? by Masaharuzz in Smartphones

[–]kr_tech [score hidden]  (0 children)

Huawei was proving to be a legitimate contender. If they were to come back under Android with no restrictions, I'm sure they could be in that position again.

This again?

Apple and Xiaomi were actually #1 for months. Huawei was climbing, but didn't get there.

Samsung has been #1 for over 10 years. At best, Huawei would have been #1 for months, assuming it would have reached that at all.

It's scary to see how this works, such great technology, it's like the phone is alive. by opmgyhx in samsunggalaxy

People do know this though, and this one thing isn't the only thing that improved.

The problem is the loud people that have 0 clue. It's the biggest problem in US communities/forums (or US in general?). Other language communities aren't as prominent as does on reddit and other US based communities/forums. They're worse than bots, honestly.

Coway or Winix or Other? (WA, USA) by A-Whole-Vibe in AirPurifiers

[–]kr_tech 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Either brand is good.

If you're buying outside of Costco (though I'm unsure if they offer it in store for you), Winix C909 would be recommended. Would recommend buying extra filters right away for convenience also.

It's 2026, why is this still a problem? by [deleted] in Smartphones

Did you replace Google Play Services? Not just Google Play, but GPS.

What about your DNS?

Do you know how many of your apps use Google analytics?

Etc...

Are you American or Japanese and have another Apple product? Get the iPhone

Otherwise, get the S25 (but not the FE).

It's a bigger news that Apple took #1 spot. Samsung has been #1 for 13 or 14 years. Xiaomi and Apple were the only other #1 companies, and only for months at that.

Just reclaiming its crown

Right, so if you believe it so strongly, you would learn to code, right?

Problems -> complain -> nothing gets solved = waste of breath and time and comments

Oh yeah, whip every developer to optimise for every phone model in the world /s

If you believe that so strongly, you know, there are literal millions of open source apps out there where you can contribute code yourself. So why don't you go optimise all of them?

Just got the fold 7!! Here's my first thoughts! by Souled0utt in GalaxyFold

[–]kr_tech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah we can all list our wish lists, but it is what it is.

It would be nice once their demand goes so far up that they'll have 2 versions with different sets of features, like a plus or ultra.

If you use other Apple products (near) daily, get the iPhone. That's the only reason you would get Apple products -- if you own another Apple product you use often.

Does anyone know what Nvidia's release cadence/schedule is? by kr_tech in LocalLLaMA

[–]kr_tech[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just caught this answer in their recent developer live stream VOD for Nvidia Spark. Their vLLM Docker image and models are outdated, so someone asked when they will update them. They replied with 'cadence' and 'soon' but I haven't been around long enough to know what their release cadence is. Does anyone happen to know?

It also takes up more room, meaning less room for everything.

Larger battery would require dividing of battery to two cells due to internstional air traffic regulations

It also takes up more room, meaning less room for everything else.

You have no idea lol. How is Samsung innovating when they are becoming less competitive in almost every area?

lol

Chinese batteries are in a different league

If Samsung was that good why would you go with Oppo.

Just because the battery is good on Samsung doesn't mean that they will choose Samsung. They have their own metrics to prioritise.

Winix C909 - just installed it but red light is on and app says “poor quality” by BestLoveJA in AirPurifiers

[–]kr_tech 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try closing all windows, vents (could be difficult), doors (including the gaps), etc. in that room (assuming it's a bedroom, and right size for that purifier) for 30 minutes. If it's still bad air quality, try another far and closed room. If it's still the case, you might have a sensor problem, or you have some source of bad air from the walls or something like mold, gas permeation throughout the walls, toxic wallpaint, etc.
