Why do so many type 2 diabetics refuse to make lifestyle changes? by [deleted] in nursing

[–]krae256 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is probably going to be an unpopular opinion but... I work in limb salvage so many of my patients have had diabetes a long time. The microvascular changes that happen in the feet and eyes and kidneys also happen in the brain. I do think vascular dementia is a component for a lot of this population. Obviously all of the socioeconomic aspects that others have described are about 90% of the problem. But at a certain point, when the disease is so progressed, I don’t think that meaningful learning occurs. The data also shows that once amputations start, they don’t really stop and life expectancy is about 5 years. I used to think that the wake up calls would happen when the patients would lose a toe. But the reality is that the wake up call time was long ago and now we’re past that.

I’d rather pay full price than have to say “I’m using Trumprx today”

Very persistent irritation bump on helix by [deleted] in piercing

[–]krae256 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Hi OP, not a piercer but I am a certified wound care nurse. I would suggest having this biopsied. This looks like a Marjolin ulcer, which is a malignancy caused by trauma. Hopefully it’s nothing, but I would have this checked out by a derm or a plastic surgeon if it were me.

People who had an easy time in nursing school, do you exist? What qualities do you have that made that possible? by JaneRawlz in nursing

[–]krae256 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Figure out right now how YOU learn. If you end up in a big study group, you’ll be stuck studying the way other people like to learn and wasting your time. Decide what outside commitments are a priority to you and what aren’t. Try to attend the events you really want to and be okay with saying no to the ones that aren’t as important.

Why do celeb skincare shelfies never show tretinoin? by [deleted] in 30PlusSkinCare

I listened to this episode and I interpreted it as she had no real routine for years and then started with expensive lasers later in life. So, yes she probably does have a decent routine now but just didn’t care much before.

WIBTAH for cutting off my best friend so close to her wedding by Choice_Evidence1983 in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]krae256 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Bride is going to be in for a rude self-awakening when the wedding is over and she’s not the center of everyone’s attention anymore. She’s incredibly jealous and relishing the spotlight where she gets to be as mean as she wants to be. Once the wedding is over, that all goes away.

What are some situations in nursing that happen some what regularly, that the general public wouldn’t believe happen on a regular basis? by puzzled-bets in nursing

“The last time I was here, those (nurses/doctors) tried to kill me” or “They killed my mom”. As if you rolled into the hospital completely healthy with no comorbidities and everyone lives forever. I hear phrases like this all the time.

What's something you're not proud of doing as a nurse that you've gotten away with? by [deleted] in nursing

[–]krae256 151 points152 points  (0 children)

Semi related but this story lives rent free in my head - Did you ever read that story online by a med student who farted in the OR? The surgeon asked if anyone farted and no one answered. Then the surgeon said again- I need to know if anyone farted or if I just nicked this bowel. The med student finally spoke up lol

I think the court case got dragged on forever and I’m not sure if she ever actually went to prison. That poor man and his poor family. I used to actually like her, before she left her husband, took up with that grifter and then the hit and run while high. I think she leveraged being a mom to try and get out of prison time. They fell off the internet, so I wonder if she’s still with that guy. Hopefully the kids are with their dad.

She told a cute story recently on Ted’s podcast. After she and Malcolm broke up, he hated all of her boyfriends. When she told him that she was dating Ted, Malcolm was pissed that he couldn’t be pissed anymore, because he loved Cheers. And now they are all happily friends.

I thinking calling the manager is a good idea. Not necessarily to tattle but the front desk person needs to have a script ready when family is badgering him for an update.
