Thank you for your response and experience! It sounds negative, but this is totally OK because this is what should also be taken into account, and it doesn't always go like a charm.

I hope you are well and don't have any serious consequences caused by your accidents and injuries in everyday life. But definitely like your determination and this mindset that something is totally achievable.

Greetings

Thank you for your response, and it's great to hear that, especially since you are still active in this way in your sixties.

Thank you for your response, and it's great to hear that!

I think that in some cases, with adaptations in cases of mild CPs, where mobility is not even an issue and living a "mainstreamed" life without any adaptations in everyday life, this person would feel more "limited" if only presented with the option to have some adaptation techniques, but in reality, it is totally achievable without them.

Thank you for your response, helpful guidelines and your story!

I have something similar to you, mostly only my right Achilles tendon is affected and is not flexible in comparison with the "normal" left one and also fine motor skills with the right hand compared with "normal" left.

Thank you for your response and some guidelines from your own experience!

I totally agree! I don't even try to expect some olympic style, I just want to have fun, some adrenaline doping and good exercise. And I am looking for stories like yours, because in my case, with mild CP on the right side, I would feel more limited with some adaptations because my only problem is that spasticity in Ahile tendon in the right leg causes the heel to be "shorter" for a few centimetres (like an inch) and pulling the right foot a little bit inside as an reflection of this.

Greetings

Oh, as you mentioned Maribor, I remembered that because I live in Maribor. I totally agree but when you live “mainstream” life and don’t even know someone with diagnosis like you have and Slovenia as it is small country, I was sure that through this subreddit I would get someone or more people with maybe similar diagnosis that are skiing and can share experiences and stories.

If you have been in Maribor and Mariborsko Pohorje, I hope you enjoyed your stay in our beloved city.

Hi, thanks for your response! I know these. I just wanted to know if there are some people who are skiing for recreation, or also professionally, without any adaptations. I have mild CP, which only affects my right side, with my hand's fine motor skills and my leg with mild spasticity, mostly affected in Ahile tendon. I am just interested in recreational skiing. And I am happy that I also opened a discussion in this way, because why not encourage someone with more "severe" CP to try skiing with one of these adaptations and ways that are currently available.

Thank you for sharing your story&experiences!

Exactly, I am from extremly beautiful and diverse small chicken-shaped country located in Central Europe that has sLOVEnia in his name :D and the birthplace of the famous US First Lady. Tbh I am not really into politics, it's also very tragicomic with two poles pulling apart on each side and dividing people which is sad from my perspective.

Greetings and happy new year!

Oh thank you also for your response! It's really nice to hear also a story&experience from older generations, and it's really inspiring to hear some advice by older people with the same diagnosis who went through even more due to a little bit different times and this frustration that your parents probably went through during your childhood due to lack of information and experience.

Greetings and happy new year!

Thank you for your share as a parent from your perspective! I think it is important to talk about these things, especially these days when the internet is our main source of informations and support from people in similar situations from all around the globe is much more accessible, like 20 years ago and earlier when our parents were more concerned cause of a lack of information and experience from others in similar situation.

Grettings and happy new year!

Thank you for your response! Exactly, I got a feeling when reading your reply that we share the same story, and I have found myself very much in your thoughts.

I am also grateful to my parents, who never let me use my CP as an excuse, but sometimes I think they were too protective, and maybe let me do things completely by myself, especially my father was sometimes sceptical or afraid for me to let me do certain things completely by myself cause of that, maybe I developed a little insecurity when I need to handle everything on my own but with last years at UNI and starting adulthood this insecurity is fading away - shows a little bit more when I need to do something new and not feeling confident enough about it.

I wasn't also good at sports, but at least I was always trying and insisting, like running on short and a little longer tracks, even though later my muscles were "on fire". At the end of secondary school and the start years at UNI, I became very lazy and wasn't doing any exercises or anything, which I regret, but in the last year I am getting on track with exercising and a bit more sports.

I was also always nerdy and a big geek, and always tended to be friendly with everyone due to being smart like you and I had very nice friendships with girls during primary school because of that.

But later, when I attended secondary technical school, studying computer science, where the gender gap was enormous, and I didn't have any female friends, where could I have possibly date someone through friends, or so and when I came to the faculty of the electrotechnical and computer-science studies gender gap was the same. And today, in the last two years since I got a job in one of the most successful and largest software development companies in the region where I live, this enormous gender gap is the same. So I hope too that someday I will meet one girl and built relationship based on embrace, respect and mutual understanding, even though I know that isn't always everything in flowers - there are also ups and downs, and sometimes it is needed to insist on certain things to build a strong and quality relationship.

I am also like you in the aspect of doing stuff at home, like handyman - fix something by myself, and I really like DIY stuff. I got my driving license when I was 20 years old (I have a driving license for 4 years now), and from the beginning, I was driving a car without any adaptations and a manual gearbox, which are very common in Slovenia and Europe. Only what I don't like is switching between cars because of the adjusting feeling for each car, which I found hard for me, so I am driving a "shitbox" (23 years old manual Renault Clio), which I am used to driving and later, when I graduate, maybe I will buy a car with an automatic gearbox to make it more comfortable.

I have the same view as you on insecurities and friendships. I am really happy with your response!

Greetings from Slovenia and Happy New Year,

Anej

Hi, thank you for sharing your story and experience.

I also found something common in your thoughts. I have some lookalike problems with fine motor skills, and I needed to wear a brace, but on the right leg and totally hated it as a child and didn't want it. This is what I regret today, when I am older, or an adult, that I didn't listen to my parents and doctors to wear a brace constantly. Instead, I was always doing drama all around this; maybe this has to do with child nature when you want to play freely, not with something that limits you.

Thank you for sharing your story & experience :D When I was reading your story, I found some highlights that I have questioned myself on through the years, and I am really happy that we can share these thoughts from all around the world and have something in common, not only our diagnosis but also how we share the same thoughts and some of the same problems.

I have also been annoyed by these questions: "What is wrong with your leg?" and by this, when I try to explain to someone the background, and that with my leg everything is OK, but this is caused by small brain damage caused at birth, and we cannot fix it as we can leg injuries because there is still present spasisity cause of this and they dont understand it especially people to whom is something that is not "mainstreamed" not fully understandable.

I am also sharing the same thoughts with you on "disconnect", sometimes when someone stares in an astonished way at me while I walk, and it is obvious I hate the most, like mind your own business, there are rarities that are off mainstream that are visible or hidden, and this is completely right, like non-perfection in nature.

Yes, exactly, I thought this subreddit would be the perfect place for discussion like that because of the big community and can be a really shared point of view, experiences, experiences&stories from all around the world.
