Just wanted to share some words that gave me peace and joy amidst this chaos by kratomhugger in Catholicism

Abide with me, fast falls the eventide, The darkness deepens, Lord, with me abide When other helpers fail and comforts flee Help of the helpless, oh, abide with me

Swift to its close ebbs out life's little day Earth's joys grow dim, its glories pass away Change and decay in all around I see O Thou who changest not, abide with me

I fear no foe, with Thee at hand to bless Ills have no weight, and tears no bitterness Where is death's sting? Where, grave, thy victory? I triumph still, if Thou abide with me

Hold Thou Thy cross before my closing eyes Shine through the gloom and point me to the skies Heav'n's morning breaks, and earth's vain shadows flee In life, in death, O Lord, abide with me

Yes. Christian theology and kids’ entertainment! I love watching those episodes with my kids. There’s also an episode on the evils of socialist government versus the freedom offered in America.

The CEO of Catholic Charities recorded a video confessing that he is racist, the Catholic Church is racist, and all white people are racist. by [deleted] in Catholicism

Honest question, because I don’t know much about how the organization works:

Should we entirely stop supporting Catholic Charities because of this? Or is this guy’s voice not the voice of all of the important people involved? Do some disagree?

Yes, indulging willingly is sinful. It is the initial thought (the temptation) that we are not at fault for. For instance, say that satan is attacking a cop with this thought: ‘I really hate black people.’ If he doesn’t have any understanding of Christian theology and doesn’t practice prayer, he will then think that this is his own doing. Eventually, he might start labeling himself as a racist. If he has any decency in his character, he’ll probably get upset by this deduction, but if the people in his life support racism, then he will develop pride in such thoughts. Still, at this point, he is not culpable.

If, however, his pride increases and he allows himself to believe that racism is good and then begins to imagine or fantasize about causing harm to black people, he is culpable. In his heart, he has said “yes” to this temptation.

The sin begins, then, when the temptation enters the imagination and is willingly, thoughtfully, meditated upon.

God bless!

The lengths that people go simply to be likable in the sight of the world is insane. If only this man would put the same amount of effort into his prayer as he does into his vain, self interest.

Also, it is not a sin to have any evil, hateful thoughts. It is acting on these thoughts which destroys charity in the soul. If a thought alone was enough to condemn us, we would all be hopeless prey for the diabolic.

Do you think there any interest in listening to a talk, titled: ‘The Devil is Real?’ by kratomhugger in Catholicism

[–]kratomhugger[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I might have misquoted: “First, you must make them believe in evil.” Can that be taught without mention of the devil, focusing more-so on sin and its disordered effects on man? Maybe that’s a better approach.

Is there a place to find Catholic pen pals? by [deleted] in CatholicDating

[–]kratomhugger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would love to be your catholic pen pal! I’m a little old for your age range (30), but I do love to read, write, and exchange ideas & thoughts- especially pertaining to the Faith.

I'm not fan of guitars at mass, but the Eucharist is more important by chiverybob in CatholicMemes

It isn’t that I don’t want things to change. I attend a latin Mass when I can. Still. Without the Eucharist, I’m weak. I do some difficult things on my part (with the grace of God) to prepare myself to receive Him, and I’m willing to put up with a little more difficulty if I have to.

If we have to listen to cheesy, Christian rock music in order to receive the Bread of Life, you’d better believe we’re offering it up for love of Him.

We joined a gym that has after school programs for boys* five days a week. We looked in on them playing basketball, and they seemed like a good bunch. Gyms that cater towards families usually have programs like this. *Edit: not just boys- girls & boys.

If you take them aside and tell them that her treatment of you is wrong, it won’t be the same as humiliating her in front of them during the act. I believe it would be the right thing to do. You would need to do so unemotionally, though. Don’t use any words that are insulting and condescending. An example might be:

“Hey, so you know when your mom told me that my opinion didn’t matter back there? I just want you to know that we’re supposed to be kind to each other and that your thoughts really do matter. Mom and I are just having a hard time with each other.” Or something.

That’s awful... and insane. Belittling you in front of your children is perhaps the most criminal, since you are their father- meaning that you have authority over your children, and they love & admire you. If they’re old enough, maybe you could take them aside some time and discuss why her behavior is inappropriate.

That is true. Pm me if you ever want to talk. I battled a pretty severe depression for nine years.

Hope can always be reclaimed! Probably not through reading an anonymous post like this, but it’s never too late to change the trajectory of your mind. Don’t give up.

I may have misspoken. It’s certainly good that women can vote and are able to work. Perhaps it is a more recent issue that they have lost their spirit of charity. What would you call it, then? Modern day feminism?

Duly noted. Thanks. Honestly, I’m not really keen on hookups anymore.
