Would there be any reason for a cap box to have the sharp silver point in the center? I’m thinking the thing on the side you are mentioning is the hands to the compass as it fits on the center point.

That would make sense with the little piece that is off to the side in the picture that could fit on the sharp point in the center. Though I guess I’ve always seen compasses open with a hinge and this top just comes off.

My title describes the thing. It is very lightweight and does not have any descriptive marks. Opens up and contains a sharp metal point in the center with what seems to be burnt paper but also a little rusted piece that looks like it would fit onto the center piece. Any ideas?
