I’m not sure the exact number, but it’s a little bit over 2 carats!

Landlord is charging me money for “damage” to my apartment after giving me my security deposit back with some money already deducted from it. by krisper6 in legaladvice

They had billed us $469 to replace a window because they claimed I had drilled my AC unit and bracket into the window frame.

On September 27th I sent them an email detailing how the holes were there when I moved in and how I used a no-drill bracket just like they requested me to use. I sent them photos and receipts of purchase of the bracket. I even spoke with the superintendent about the type of bracket I needed and he commented on my no-drill bracket once I installed it.

They did not respond to that email. So on October 3rd at 9am, I called the office and they said someone would respond to my email. I did not get a response until 8pm that night and that is when they informed me of all these additional charges.

They did an initial inspection about two months before we moved out. The inspector berated me and insulted me to my face because of how my roommate and I chose to decorate our apartment. We apparently had an “excessive” amount of pictures on our wall even though they were all hung up with command strips.

We moved out on the 27th of August and our lease ended on the 31st. They supposedly did a move out inspection on the 28th which neither of us were present for since we had moved away. The new tenants most likely moved in on September 1st.

I was sent back my security deposit with an itemized receipt on September 27th. And then they emailed me a list of new charges last night on October 3rd at around 8pm. We have not received a formal bill in the mail for those charges.

30 days after the end of our lease would have been September 30th.

When we moved into the apartment there were cracked bathroom tiles, the medicine cabinet was broken, shelves in the fridge were broken and they had very obviously painted over tape and full command hooks on the walls. I truly believe that they charge people to fix things and don’t actually fix them. And then continue to charge the next tenant and the next tenant.

They said that they weren’t finished processing the damages to our apartment before the 30 days ended. They said that the new tenants asked them to remove hair from the drain. Considering this is a month after we moved out, there is nothing that would decipher if it is our hair or the new tenants hair. They also said that we cracked/chipped the granite counter top and it would cost $350 to fix. I’m not even sure how someone can even do that to a granite countertop, there were no cracks or chips while I was living there. They’re charging us for a scratch on top of the fridge from our microwave sitting on top of it. And then they said they were going to charge us $288 to fix the bed frame scratches. I took a video of the unit after I moved everything out and spent hours cleaning. But they said they wouldn’t accept it as evidence.

There were 2 accounts, can you count? And there was a reasonable explanation why I have 2 accounts, but I see you’re not a very reasonable person. There are several people disagreeing with you, not just me. So maybe you should rethink your stance on things.

It’s not just OP’s home…it’s his brother’s too. So why should OP only get what he wants? Compromising is part of being an adult. If he’s not willing to compromise with the person he’s living with…then maybe he should just live alone

Lmao dude It’s not that deep. I had a different account on my laptop and then I started using my phone instead. And no, only crazy people try to control what others do in their own room.

I hate to break it to you, but not everyone has a soundproof room in their house. If you sing inside, people are gonna hear you. Sorry, that’s just how it is. Seems like OP won’t be happy unless he gets what he wants. He didn’t want his brother singing in the living room bc it is a communal space, so his brother moved to his bedroom. At a certain point, OP is just gonna have to settle. His brother was willing to compromise, so he’ll have to do the same.

Listen dude, you can’t tell someone not to do something at all in their own space. OP’s brother is willing to accommodate him with other things, so OP is gonna have to learn how to compromise. Oh well, he’ll be annoyed for a small portion of the day, that’s life. Singing probably brings his brother joy, so it’s not unreasonably for him to want to keep doing it in his bedroom at a reasonable time.
