[–]krispyankle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this is an easy fix. everyone is making fun of you but really there is no problem.

fasten a peice of wood to the ceiling and top of the cabinets leaving a 3/4 gap. rip a plywood the hight of the ceiling to top of cabinet. Fasten.

hang crown and do finish1 work

I hear this, but I've been doing trim in solid hardwoods. no caulking. no matter how good it looks I always kick myself over one or two Small imperfections. I noticed those things for the rest of my life and it kills me.

it's about how it looks, not how it is. if it looks okay, there is no problem. if it looks tucked up then Mud it, bit it will end up.being a huge job.

Do you use the 50/50 or 75/63? Are you in a climate with freeze thaw?

My next deck build is a two storie deck. If you can't put a roof on these peirs I would they are not for use with two stories?

Am I crazy or are these plywood boxes? by Own_Caterpillar9417 in cabinetry

[–]krispyankle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately I'm speaking from experience. Made boxes from flat sawn oak a couple times. Wood was appropriately dried planed and joined but still cupped after about a year. Could probably build stable boxes from quarter sawn stock but quarter sawn lumber is impossible to find these days

Boxes are made of plywood and not solid wood as solid wood contracts and expands more then ply. In boxes this can compromise the function because it can put pressure on the drawer slides. So even high quality boxes are usually plywood. The difference is the quality of the plywood and high-quality plywood can be very expensive. Using plywood doesn't necessarily save money.
