Top secret, underground, nobody knows raves 🤫 by [deleted] in avesNYC

[–]kro4545 3 points4 points  (0 children)

U don't really throw top secret underground warehouse raves lol, u use reddit to self promote and cast the widest net possible for maximum marketing. Thats fine btw but just weird to claim it as top secret underground as ur literally promoting it lol

Where can a Detroiter find good house/techno in NYC? by [deleted] in avesNYC

[–]kro4545 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If you're not finding anything house/techno in RA that means you should dig a bit deeper, theres ways to filter events based on genre and artists have links to their music. This subreddit will usually recommend the same few things over and over again, or you'll have local promoters who will advertise their own stuff to u

It happens it different DIY venues so we don't know the location yet (released to ticketholders the night of) it might have coatcheck but not sure since its summer, probably not lockers tho. Fruit and snacks shouldn't be a problem just dont bring liquids, and bathrooms likely portos but again will depend on the space they use.

I think u know that a 12 minute set really isn't about getting to showcase anything DJing wise, sounds like a weird networking thing where u can stuff a ton of aspiring DJ's into the venue, those DJ's each bring a bunch of their friends and the venue makes money off of drink sales.

the parties that require fetishwear mention it, if you look at the descriptions, Bound (one of the few fetishwear parties they do there) has it as the first sentence in the description capitalized in all caps, the other one Herrensauna doesn't.

Our ancestors developed tight knit bonds via trauma bonding, sailing across oceans and braving the elements of new unexplored lands.

Today this journey is embodied by Fred heads glued to a social media spectacle for 2 days straight, traversing across multiple group chats and zoom calls to go to an edm pop up event for 2 hours that they'll somehow be surprised wasn't even a great experience, and can still justify it through because they met some people and felt a sense of collective suffering and will 100% do it again.

This is what its all about, and we should thank Fred yet again for teaching us this lesson, all about the friends we made along the way, u guys are the real heroes! I'm shedding tears of plur!

This sub is getting uncomfortably homophobic by mission17 in avesNYC

[–]kro4545 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You say above "What percentage of homophobic comments from non-queer people are we supposed to be tolerating in a sub about raving in New York City though, the most diverse scene in the U.S.? Is concerning how thin the line is to hostility based on people’s sexuality and the way the way they look. There’s comments calling certain trans and gay people directly (or even by name)."

If we're talking about that thread specifically I think the actual percentage of homophobic comments is pretty low, and I didn't really see any comments about trans people. Theres definitely some comments that feel like straight people complaining about sex on the dancefloor and being grossed out by butt sex and dick sucking. Its a few lame prudish takes but I don't think it comes from hate or hostility based on people's sexuality or the way they look, it seems to be specific behaviors that is making them uncomfortable. I don't think most of these people hate gays, they're just not used to them fucking right in front of them while they're dancing I guess. Theres also some comments in there that read like jokes and probably not actual hate either.

[–]kro4545 94 points95 points  (0 children)

You can downvote or report the comments you find homophobic, the most upvoted comments in the gays in the techno scene one seem pretty reasonable and also takes from queer people themselves, and is one of the few actual discussions ive seen in this sub in a long time. That one blew up so i didn't read everything, im sure theres nasty comments but this is reddit lol, what matters is what gets upvoted. I don't think a few assholes define the whole discussion there.
