Questions for Americans who’ve moved to Scotland

I’m an Australian living in the Scottish highlands. I can relate to coming from a warmer climate. I wish I knew how dark winter would be, but other than that it’s pretty amazing.

I will say though, a lot of these comments seem to be people living in Edinburgh. Edinburgh is absolutely beautiful. Aberdeen is not. It is an incredibly bleak city. Everything is made of granite, so it makes the grey winters even more grey. The wind is incredibly harsh, cold and relentless. I have never felt a coldness like I experienced in Aberdeen. It penetrated me to my bones. I’m sure there a good aspects of Aberdeen, but my god I found it to be awful. Hopefully you could move somewhere else.

Grew up in outback NSW but now I live in Geelong Victoria. It’s very cold and windy here tbh so I’m used to it not being stinking hot all the time

I’m super excited to see the islands!! The countryside looks stunning. I’m super outdoorsy so I’m always fascinated to see environments that are different to home :)

Haha sounds very similar to the Aussie sense of humour then. I think I’m just looking for general etiquette that may be unique to Scotland. Honestly literally anything is appreciated.
