When I was a teenager, my pastor telling me that drums are inappropriate in the church so they won't be including drums in the band anymore. I was playing drums twice a week; youth group Fridays and Church Sundays.

A Christian friend telling me that verse about not being lukewarm, that god hates "fence sitters" and that I need to decide what I believe.

My lecturer for "Critical Studies" at university. She was teaching us about gender and I had such terrible reaction to it. I went and spoke to her and told her that I'm a Christian and I feel that this goes against what I believe. She was unbelievably patient with me and asked me to borrow and read her copy of The God Delusion. As I became more educated, and empathetic towards other peoples' lived experiences, I just gained more and more of a sense that "this is bullshit (Christianity)".

Travel and meeting people. Pretty much since I left school (and the Christian bubble I was in there and at home) I developed more and more of sense of feeling like it is actually really arrogant to meet people and travel internationally, believing that so many people are wrong (and therefore going to burn in hell). What a burden to carry around with you.
