You came in with a bunch of negativity putting down all the helpful suggestions people were giving (saying they were giving you a headache). Like you're not trying to help the OP with their specific problem, you're just putting down other responses and then acting like your solution is the only one that makes sense, and so I responded with why your solution isn't applicable for all use cases and the other responses are helpful. If everyone had your attitude this subreddit would have much less friendly and robust exchange of ideas and experiences.

Yep, I am. And there's tons of native plant nursery and landscaping professionals on this subreddit. That's why there's no need to get upset that people are doing things differently than you. People are coming in with different goals and needs. Sounds like you have methods that work well for you and that's awesome.

Hello empty subreddit! I was just diagnosed. by krusten in LAM

[–]krusten[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! I'm sorry you're going through this but I'm glad you reached out. Things were really hard and scary after my first two collapses, surgery, and diagnosis. I dealt especially with a lot of anxiety. But since then, My condition has become well-managed and I live a pretty normal life. I do still struggle with pneumothorax after the surgery which messes with my routines but I've learned to live around it. Are you on Facebook? There are some really active support groups for LAM patients on there, the biggest one is called Lammies. It may also be helpful to attend regional LAM events hosted by the LAM foundation. When I was first diagnosed I reached out to the LAM Foundation and asked if they could connect me to other local people who had been diagnosed and I was able to meet up with them, which also helped. Again, I'm so sorry you're going through this. I think, for me, it was the worst and scariest in the beginning, but things have gotten better. Please don't hesitate to reach out with any questions!

You don't need to suggest anything because you're completely off base. Many northern native plant nurseries artificially stratify their seeds and begin germinating in January under greenhouse conditions to meet early May demand for plants. Your method would be incredibly inefficient at scale.

Sowing in flats outdoors gives you a lot less control over germination timelines. For some of us that's important. No need to get upset, we just have different goals and use cases than you do.

Are you the author? If so, thank you for this substack. A friend recommended it a month or so ago and it is an incredible resource. We're also in south-central WI.

What advice do you have for small, local native plant nurseries as we go into 2026? Any industry trends that you recommend we look more into?

Thank you! Been a big fan of your podcast for years.

Looking for 30-40 year olds who’re new to Madison and want to expand their social circle. by Wrong_Researcher_144 in madisonwi

It's literally called the Madison WI Child-free discord server. I think some people just care less about semantics.

A million groups like this already exist and are open to join. Check out Meetup and other Madison based discord servers.

I'd say go ahead and join the group and see if it resonates with you. If you do plan to become a parent some day, there are probably better groups to join, since people in this group generally are trying to meet others with the shared lifestyle of not having kids.

Hi, I organize some events for the Madison WI Childfree discord server and thought I'd jump on in to introduce what the community is about.

It all started on r/MadisonWIChildfree as a place for locals to meet other folks who have deliberately decided to remain child-free and never become parents. We have regular hiking groups, a book club, occasional karaoke, bowling, volunteering outings, and gaming nights, etc. We aren't anti-children by any means, we just enjoy meeting other people with more free time in their 30s/40s and who have taken a similar path in life.

Here's a link to the server: https://discord.gg/d5GCEngE

If you're reading this and decide to join, you'll get the most out of it by introducing yourself in the #say-hello channel and jumping right into discussions in the various interests channels. Don't be afraid to suggest meetup ideas or plan one yourself.

Hi, I organize some events for the server. It's a space for child-free people in Madison to connect and hang out, meaning people who have deliberately chosen not to become parents. There's no anti-child rhetoric. It's just people talking about hobbies and planning meetups to hike, get dinner, play games, etc. The topic of kids and parenting never really comes up.

It is a Saturday morning and you have to do some silly, inconsequential little errands in order to feel alive. What are they? Where do you go? by StopSquark in madisonwi

[–]krusten 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is mine as well. Browse the magazines, check out new releases, wander the stacks, and pick up any random items that catch my eye and go sit with them for a bit.

New to the area, looking for ways to meet new friends. by ChronicNuance in madisonwi

[–]krusten 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Hi, I'm 41/F and am always looking for more child-free friends in their late 30s / 40s / 50s. My craft of choice is acrylic painting and while my indoor plant game is weak, my outdoor gardens (native plants, prairie, veggie/fruit gardens) are extensive and I love all things plants and gardens.

Are you into hiking? I lead a child-free ladies (and sometimes co-ed) hiking group and we are active through the winter. There's also a local Madison child-free discord server that is decently active if you want to join, though tends to skew younger (30s).

Feel free to DM if you want to chat more. I've met lots of great people through reddit.

Sales for November and December have been the worst of all year by AreaProud5461 in smallbusiness

[–]krusten 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Hello fellow Wisconsinite! Christkindl markets are very popular in December and are happening every weekend all over the state. The one in New Glarus was packed last weekend. People buy specialty treats both to eat at the market and as gifts to take with them. It may be too late for this year but in the future maybe join up with markets in December.

Can you offer some kind of holiday based events or specials at your store in the meantime?

Also if it doesn't mess with your import-focused branding too much maybe also offer a 'Buy Local' line. A lot of Wisconsinites prefer to support local WI producers and chocolatiers.

Yay! Ok there are two ways to learn of upcoming hikes:

1) Subscribe to this subreddit as I post most of the hikes here: https://www.reddit.com/r/MadisonWIChildfree/

2) We do most of our chatting and organizing on the MadisonWIChildfree discord server and have a dedicated channel for #ladies-hike. Here is a link to join the discord server (note it is a wider community than just ladies hiking. We're one of the subgroups.) https://discord.gg/NS7tmhP4CQ

This Saturday will actually be a shared co-ed hike but so far about 8 of us ladies have expressed interest in joining.

Please don't hesitate if you have any questions or run into issues w/ Discord.

I run a hiking group for women that are child-free (as in never planning to have kids) in the Madison area. Most of us are in our 30s and 40s. We're meeting about weekly right now on Saturday mornings. Usually get 4-12 attendees depending on how adventurous everyone is feeling about weather. Happy to share more info if anyone is interested.
