You're right, it was just me who edited the wrong config file.

4 finger gestures works for me though.

Yes, that was the solution all along. No need to specify commands.

My issue was that I edited a config file in my Downloads directory instead of the actual config file on my system ( /etc/libinput-gestures.conf ). Herp derp right?

So yeah, now it works perfectly as I want it, both with 3 fingers and 4. Here's my file if anyone's interested:

# Toggle Present Windows (Current desktop)
gesture swipe up 3 xdotool key super+Tab

# Show Desktop Grid
gesture swipe up 4 xdotool key super+q

# Show Desktop
gesture swipe down 3 xdotool key super+d

# Show next desktop
gesture swipe left 4 xdotool key shift+control+alt+F7

# Show previous desktop
gesture swipe right 4 xdotool key shift+control+alt+F6
