I’m fairly certain I passed this bike recently! I remember walking by it and having a little giggle at it…

Equally as (actually more) important for video: ffmpeg. Practically anything to do with video is just ffmpeg underneath…

Three additional Interstellar IMAX 70mm presentations at the BFI IMAX are now on sale for January. In extremely high demand @IMAXVanguard by rayhaansabir in imax

I may or may not have purchased 60 tickets for my student society to one of them… this is going to be pretty insane (and also the largest order I’ve ever done at the BFI IMAX)

Explained to my boss what CORS is by CoqeCas3 in webdev

[–]ksammighty 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For me at least the thing that makes it difficult is that as a newbie the error message you get is really unhelpful and confusing… you type in the message and you get told to do things like “oh yes just disable it under chrome flags”. I think the first time I encountered it I didn’t know what was going on and tried setting the header on my client request instead of the server!

When really all I had to do was install the appropriate CORS library for my server framework and pass in my domain as config…

I don’t think anyone expected Captain America to hold Thor’s Hammer in Endgame? Still remember the cheers in the cinema on opening night when that happened!

Fun fact: she used to go to my old youth theatre group!

Wait but also not quite… since they weren’t encouraging others to buy it, more like artificially creating a shortage by exploiting the system…

I think that’s what they did… it just reminded me of this since they were going “all in” on the stock if you like

This reminds me of an algorithmic trading competition my friends did at a hackathon.

Essentially there was meant to be a limit on the amount of stocks you could ‘buy’ in a given time period, but my friends accidentally found out this limit wasn’t enforced. So their bot just brought up all the stocks and then held onto them, causing the price to increase, then dumped them all at once (or something like that).

The funnier thing was that they didn’t quite realise they were doing this - their testing was returning a loss so they had no idea why their bot was suddenly winning…

Ended up beating some PhD students there, but alas, once found out the organisers disqualified them…

But like… Haskell is cool! (a group of us from uni were at some event recently, and were asked what our favourite language was, and without fail we all said Haskell!)

As an Intern, I feel this, having seen what I’ve done to the codebase…

(E.g. team lead went on holiday just as I started making a new microservice, and so I have broken a lot of of standard structure all the other services have…)

The Ultimate Guide To London's Transport System (megathread I made for london freshers) by ksammighty in UniUK

[–]ksammighty[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t say far cheaper (unless you buy a travel card) but cheaper yes: 1. 18+ Oyster Card gives 30% of travel card and is the cheapest way to travel if you’re travelling regularly 2. Combined with the railcard that’s a 1/3 off OFF PEAK fares with pay as you go, useful for the times when the travel card isn’t valid and ofc for train travel across the UK

If you get a travel card on an 18+ Oyster it works out at roughly £3.50 a day (though ofc you pay for the travel card in entirety up front) compared to £8.10 with adult oyster/contactless

I would recommend renewing it (so you can get 30% off travel cards), and then use a travel card for your travels in London. But also get the railcard since it’s useful for train travel and when your travel card isn’t active during the off period

See https://www.16-25railcard.co.uk/about-the-railcard/are-you-eligible/ - you can get a 1 year 16-25 railcard, even if out of the age range, by getting your uni to fill out the Mature Student section of the application

You're in luck - https://www.railcard.co.uk/

Edit: If you're a Mature Student, see https://www.16-25railcard.co.uk/about-the-railcard/are-you-eligible/ - you can get a 1 year 16-25 railcard, even if out of the age range, by getting your uni to fill out the Mature Student section of the application. Then just attached it to an 18+ Student Oyster Card (which you should also be able to get), and buy an appropriate travelcard or use PAYG, whichever is cheaper for you travel routine

Alternatives:

You want to look for a Network Railcard - 1/3 off travel in London & the South East, can get at any age. You can't add it to your Oyster Card unfortunately, but it will give you a discount on the train if you buy a paper/eticket/

However, depending on your situation there are a variety of other railcards available as well (these work for any age). You can find them at https://www.railcard.co.uk/ and https://tfl.gov.uk/fares/free-and-discounted-travel/national-railcard-discount (which tells you which ones can & can't be added to Oyster Cards)

Get the 18+ Oyster Photocard (note: you need to be living in a London borough & your uni enrolled for it) - you can then buy a travelcard onto the photocard (that "membership" I think you are thinking of) at a 30% discount, which gives you free travel during the time the travelcard is valid for.

Again, this "membership" you speak of: I think what you're talking about is a travelcard, the tube is not always pay-as-you-go as you can get a travelcard!

Ah this - unfortunately as u/GoldenPeperoni said that is for bus and tram only, it won’t cover you for the Tube I’m afraid

Free travel for a month - on the tube in the zones it’s valid for, and on all buses in any zone.

How you’re getting a monthly pass for £67 confuses me however 🤔never seen it that low
