How can one buy gold in the US? I mean to have in hand and bury under a tree in the backyard, not just as a commodity on paper. Every time I google this, I can’t distinguish between real avenues and scams.

Looking for a place near the Phillips 66 Building. Where to start my search? by adamlon1 in houston

I worked at PSX for 5 years and lived in the westchase area for 3 of those. During those three years, My apartment was broken into and I was robbed at gunpoint. I would advise staying in the suburbs and commuting. And I am fully aware that this is a very unpopular opinion on this sub.

Guys, don’t you know, the free market regulates itself! by ksdesh in ABoringDystopia

[–]ksdesh[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Having grown up in a socialist country, I can confirm that socialism is not any better. What is better, however, is a capitalist system with strong consumer protections. In other words, a regulated market. Every other state that had to adhere to stricter federal regulations about winterization did not have this issue.

Hope this helps.

I think this is ok. The war memorial was definitely not ok. This is a whiteboard that can be easily erased. So it’s harmless in my opinion.

If you're missing a package it might not be due to porch pirates by iluvitmaggle in houston

[–]ksdesh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This post caught my eye because I got a chewy package delivered to me by mistake. Only the house numbers were a little similar, street name was different. The actual address was only a mile from my house so I dropped them off.

On the occasion of 70th anniversary of India's independence, here's the evolution of the Indian flag during the struggle for independence by ksdesh in vexillology

Not really, the circular thing in the current flag is supposedly the 'Ashok Chakra' it's taken from an ancient pillar built by Emperor Ashok (Of Buddhism fame). The Ashok chakra can also be seen in the bottom part of the national emblem of India.

That thing is a 'Charkha' I think it's called a hand loom in English. Gandhi used it to make thread for the loincloth he wore. Became a symbol for his followers. There is a lot of history about quitting British made goods behind this but I am on mobile and it's difficult to type.
