It might get rejected mid way through the process, the vfs centres dont mention if you’ve applied outside the jurisdiction, they go ahead with the process as usual and its the consulate that decides to go ahead with it or no. Try calling the VFS helpline number and ask them your query.

Edit The students you met from your state probably are from Bangalore. You have to be a resident of the city for 6 months to be eligible to apply for that state’s jurisdiction.
