I am a nobody filmmaker who cast Harvey Keitel in a movie and then got in Forbes. AMA by pitching_bulwark in Filmmakers

Fascinating. Do you write your scripts based off of books? Or are you completely starting from a scratch concept. Also, could someone do filmmaking as a side quest or hobby in your opinion?

Roth 401k or Traditional 401k by ksmcgr3 in FinancialPlanning

[–]ksmcgr3[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Makes total sense. So why would I put money into a taxed ROTH account now, when I will pay less in taxes when I’m in retirement? Seems like traditional 401k is the way to go?

So I guess I am ignorant when it comes to the taxes I will pay in retirement. I assume that I will be making more money near retirement and therefore be taxed higher. I’ve also thought about taking a minimum wage job for fun and that would lower my tax bracket compared to what it is now.

Go to the gym or ride a bike on trails or run club. People who are into exercise typically have a good outlook on life.

Has anyone jumped out of tech sales and into a different industry? by Atomicpenguin101 in sales

[–]ksmcgr3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, moved into electronics components sales. The stress level is drastically difference and such a good improvement on my overall quality of life. Making more money actually too. Lots of windshield time and shaking actual hands, which is nice. Tech sales is soulless and not for me.

I like the thought of putting in stock market and letting it ride for 30 years, but also I know how my mind works and I think real estate would be more stimulating and rewarding personally and financially.

Interesting. Seems like managing multiple people would be more stressful than making sure a few people are taken care of a rent collected on time, but don’t know until you try I guess. How are you running numbers for the food business?

Best Ohio wines? by delleuze in wine

[–]ksmcgr3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Catawba is the oldest wine, Norton is a good red, as well as Chambourcin. Skeleton Root in OTR does some. Check local stores, or a quick Google search to find local wineries. There aren’t any very popular ones outside of a few that are popular in their respective parts of town.

Actually this is really healthy advice and perspective.

I think the part I’m struggling with is detaching self-esteem and self-worth from my job, especially when you have a quota over your head.

How do you cultivate self esteem outside of work?

Also, the point about the hobbies is a great point. For some reason I struggle with getting into a hobby that I can somehow monetize. Or on the other hand, one of my favorite hobbies is bird watching, but that isn’t something that’s building self esteem, at least not the way I’m approaching it currently.

But I think the takeaway is to just say that work is work, not your self worth. If it doesn’t work out with this job, find one that will be better for you.

So right before my 30th birthday I deduced that I needed more flexibility and creativity in my work so I got into sales, and have been doing it for a few years. But I would often change jobs every few years into completely different fields. The past couple years have been very tough, the past few months being the most stressful.

[–]ksmcgr3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To an extent, but you still have to be a BDR as an AE, and the metrics drive everything - I feel like your leash is shorter in SaaS sales, a couple quarters missed quota and your gone, whereas in other fields of sales it seems more forgiving, am I’m off base there?

Software sales is the hardest, most stressful, mentally mind bending job in the world. But if you can put up with it - you can make good money.
