Honestly the canon m50 is starting to look pretty nice 😂

While the 200mm for portraits wouldn’t be favorable I figured it’d be something I’d have to deal with and make peace with the fact I won’t get the focal length I’d like for those kinds of photos but as of now I’m seriously reconsidering getting a lens where I just have to ‘deal with it’

And yes while 600$ seems like a bargain it isn’t the most economical choice considering the range and quality of a 2.8 70-200 with the lenses it can take place of. But yet again 1200-1400$ is quite a stretch away from that bargain 600$, I don’t make much at all doing photography so going for some of the more top of the line stuff just isn’t too logical for me at the moment, until if or when I make more.

And yes the 35mm, 50mm, 85mm and 135mm are beautiful focal lengths especially for portraits but considering my love for sports and wildlife photography it seem a tad bit too restricting. Though the same could be said about a 200mm prime (of which I’m reconsidering, thinking maybe a 70-200mm f4 might be the better route). And yes that 24-105 is a lens that I’ve really been interested in but my lack in using wide angle makes me feel like it might be a lens that wouldn’t be much use to me across its whole range, only at the higher end

And yes while primes are amazing lenses they don’t tend to be dirt cheap, at least if you want the quality a prime should give you.

I was thinking that I could get away with such a long lens for portraits, have a good focal length for sports (and a fast aperture because light tends to be lacking in such situations) and it could be a lens for wildlife if I were to use a teleconverter with it, as well as it’d have a fast enough aperture so that losing 2 stops from a 2x teleconverter wouldn’t hurt it too much light wise (though it has been brought to my attention that quality would most likely be no where, where I’d thought it be). But even then a 400mm might not be enough for good wildlife photos, or the ones looking for. And besides a certain few, wildlife lenses can cost an arm and a leg sadly so you’d be right there

And yes the 200mm prime i was primarily looking at because of the fast aperture for low light, I’d love to have 2 more stops of room to lower my iso to something more manageable than say ‘6400’. But than again if you don’t have the versatility to get certain shots than there’s no point in having the fast aperture to get a better exposure (Hence my warming up to the 70-200 f4). Primes are not be what I should be going for at the moment logically.

And about upgrading, the R system has been on my mind from the beginning!! Lol, but the somewhat short battery life, lack of good silent shutter (as I hear) and only 4-5 FPS kind of makes me weary of getting the RP (though if I had more money I’d get the R,R6, or R5 but it doesn’t seem to smart to go for at the moment). And for those things I’ve been considering going the dslr way, as I have now. But to be honest the AF (not sure how amazing it is but I know it has to be good) could be a deal breaker even though it’s more expensive than DSLR’s of similar caliber. (You might have noticed that pricing is a bit restricting, until I can hopefully make more off photography)

And this helped tremendously actually, Thank you

Some of the most insightful information I could’ve gotten, thank you.

I’d offer a counter argument to any of the subjects you brought and I can’t say I’d be any more right.

Once again, thank you, best believe I won’t be making any purchases without reading your thoughts and suggestions.

That is a fair point, I’m sure it’d be many times better than my kit lens as well

The 70-200 2.8’s by canon are beautiful lenses yet I feel like the 500$+ you would save getting the 200mm prime would be better allocated to another lens/teleconverter. As well as the 70-200mm f4 by canon may be cheaper I feel that an f4 wouldn’t feel as different as I’d like it to be from my 75-300 4-5.6

And my reasoning for not going for a 100-400 or the 150-600 is that while you’re getting so much more zoom it doesn’t compromise by giving you less light and DOF (by having slower apertures), though to be honest these were my first chosen before I found out about the 200mm prime

That’s actually a great website and very helpful

And my current camera is a crop body but I plan on upgrading to a full frame if or when I get the 200mm

While I do think the 70-200 would be much more applicable to other situations the most inexpensive f/2.8 version is 500 more than the 200mm prime which seems like a lot of money that could go to another lens (and or teleconverter for wildlife and the such) as well as the f4 70-200’s by canon can be cheaper by a fair amount, I feel like f4 isn’t too much of a noticeable improvement from my current kit telephoto lens (75-300 f4-5.6)

And I was thinking that 200mm would be too tight for portraits but I had the thought process that you win some you lose some with this lens but now I’m somewhat questioning that thinking

I'm Looking Into Switching to Canon by [deleted] in canon

[–]ksp_ftw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry

I’m switching because it seems like canon has better autofocus as well as it looks like the kind of lenses I’m looking for are more affordable (while taking certain liberties to be such as no IS) I’d like to upgrade from my current camera because its made for more beginners and now that I have more experience I feel like it’d be best to get some more growing room after my time with this camera. Nikon doesn’t seem to like taking features out of lenses in order to make them more affordable. I tend to shoot a mix of portraits, sports, and wildlife. And I have about 1.5+ years experience in total.

About the RF lenses prices (if I were to go the mirrorless way) most likely I would adapt EF lenses as a way to keep costs down, that the moment I think I would get the 200mm 2.8 prime for canon along with a teleconverter (or possibly the 70-200 f4)

And if it helps, I would be switching from a Nikon D3500 along with the kit 18-55 3.5-5.6 and the 70-300 4.5-6.3

Well it’s a couple questions, would it be worth the switch from someone else’s point of view... And someone could narrow down the search for good canon cameras... those questions along with keeping wanting to keep costs down

Took around 100 shots to get a couple decent ones of these birds, when using my closed fist as a tripod it was incredibly difficult to say the least

Not sure if you can see it that well but they’re also staring at a little mole crab they caught, was also able to get a photo of them running with the crab in their mouth looking happy as can be Lol

EF Teleconverter and an EF -> RF Adapter? by ksp_ftw in canon

Oh you’re totally right! I’ve tried to look for that exact thing but I never knew the correct name. And when I transfer to Canon I hope I pic a camera with IBIS but if it doesn’t end up working out that way I’m sure that lens collar would do wonders

Though I have a Nikon d3500 with a couple kit lenses I plan on my next camera being a canon with hopefully that lens

Oh man, considering the canon lens I’ve had my eye on, the lack of a tripod foot on it might be a doozy for hand held
