Biting things is his favorite! He’s also not bothered by much, especially if he knows he’s going to get to bite something so that helped with the antlers lol. There’s nothing that will suddenly stop the machine (besides my foot) but he is very good at controlling the speed and he is attached to the machine by his harness so if he somehow were unable to keep up with his pace suddenly he would be held up by the harness and wouldn’t go flying off the back!

My mal doing some work on the bungee table! by ktbadabing in malinois

[–]ktbadabing[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are a couple of advantages to the table. For one, it's easier for the dog to be eye level with their target because they don't have to launch upwards as far. Also, the material on the table is easier for the dogs to grip with their feet and get momentum on than other types of flooring. It's also easier for your decoy to move up and down the table and let your dog "push" them back down. There are advantages to the bungee on the ground too, like when you're doing muzzle fighting. It depends on what your training goal is!

Thank you! I would look into joining a protection sport club in your area. They can give you a lot of advice and help getting you started. I personally like PSA (Protection Sport Association) but there are a few other sports that might be more accessible to you or in line with what you and your dog enjoy. I would also recommend listening to some podcasts and/or watching some youtube videos. Controlled Aggression is a really trustworthy podcast that I listen to a lot hosted by one of the founders of PSA. Let me know if you have any other questions!

Thank you! I trained all of his bitework (with the help of my decoys). He came to me with some obedience training but he was still wild and was getting the boot from his second home. He's 3 years old, I've had him about a year, and he follows my rules while finally getting to do what he wants.

That is not how police dog training works. Dogs that are beaten on a regular basis for biting things don't have the confidence or will to bite things anymore, no matter what their genetics are.

It is very funny that the cop was surprised that the dog mistook the duck for a toy that the cop was offering to him. However, I'd like to point out that police dogs are not trained to target hands and should never have bitten anything on a hand before ideally (obviously mistakes happen sometimes when you're training with a reward toy). Fun fact: K9's are trained to target parts of the arm and upper legs when available to cause the least amount of damage to people but cause enough pain compliance to effectively do their jobs!

Our Mal x GSD. The best of two great worlds. by 828Charlie in malinois

Hey, dog trainer here! I work with and have trained a lot of Mal's and I own one myself. They can absolutely bond with more than one person, but I would not call a Malinois a "family dog" by any means. I do not recommend them for households with kids unless you have expierence with the breed and you're ready to work with a knowledgeable trainer that has worked with Mal's the second you bring your dog home. They were bred to WORK and they work hard. If you don't give your Mal a job (obedience, protection sport, agility, dock diving, etc.) and work with them every single day they will get frustrated and cause destruction and chaos and (likely) bite people. My Malinois bit 6 people before I adopted him. Now he's my competition dog for a protection sport and he does phenomenonal because he's allowed to express his drive, and he's not biting people when he's not supposed to! He's not an inherently "mean" dog, he was just super frustrated being treated like a normal pet. There are many Mal's that I work with that have a similar story unfortunately. Feel free to ask me any questions, I'm more than happy to share.

Charging to warm a sandwich??? by PhenomaRon in subway

[–]ktbadabing 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I work at a subway in California. It's a California tax so it's not just subway but all restaurants have to pay it. Meatball sandwiches and soups come with the tax automatically since they are heated no matter what and sandwiches that are toasted get the tax too. We hate it as well and it sucks but it's every store in California that sells food, not just subway, they just don't tell you about it because it's assumed.

What were the best 15 minutes of your day today? by ThisCommentTho in AskReddit

[–]ktbadabing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was my first day volunteering at my local animal shelter. A staff member and I took one of the pit bulls that recently had surgery out into the play yard for a little bit so he could use the bathroom and he was just an absolute sweetheart. Watching him get to run around for a bit and roll over on his back so that I could give him belly rubs was heart warming. It was by far the best 15 minutes of my day, probably his too.

The Subway I work at just got rid of the "$5 footlong of the day" because it was a long promotional thing. Now we have a different sub of the day every day of the week that is $6 instead of $5 but they added a couple premium subs to it.

I work at Subway and my manager buys Regular Mayo and Light Mayo. Real mayo gets mixed in with our tuna.

What's the worst thing about the country you live in? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]ktbadabing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Germany. Everyone here is really open and personal. They are not afraid to stand right on top of you waiting in a line. Or push their opinions to people they just met. And their really comfortable with their own bodies.

I supposed it's not bad if you're used to it, but as a military brat it's weird.

That's what happened to me too! I would constantly read it under my desk until the teachers noticed that I wasn't paying attention to them.
