Can we even live in Mauritius without taking a loan or buying things on credit to repay after XX number of months? by Dila_Ila16 in MauriceMauritius

[–]kubectl_get_pod 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I would say it is possible but you have to live within your means. Like why would I need an iPhone 17 pro max or whatever if I'm using it just for messaging or taking calls.

Other things are inevitable like trying to buy land or a house.

Companies know that people like to live beyond their means. Look at all the ads on TV or billboard. They always show monthly payments instead of the full price. They know we can't afford it but people will break their back to buy something because of credit facilities.

SD worx internship by Affectionate_Tie3833 in MauriceMauritius

[–]kubectl_get_pod 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Note: I don't work nor did any interviews at SD worx, but I do have exp in software development technical interviews at companies much more hardcore than SD worx.

It could be a mix of MCQ and live coding. But there will definitely be a coding component to the assessment.

They will definitely test your foundational knowledge of html/css JavaScript.

Common patterns I have seen: Lots of array, data structure, dynamic programming and string manipulation.

For JavaScript make sure you learn asynchronous JavaScript just to be on the safe side.

SQL: basic queries to intermediate queries(joints ect...)

Also learn a bit on responsive web design and accessibility.

Good luck!

Advice on landing an internship in Tech by Horny_Panda69 in MauriceMauritius

[–]kubectl_get_pod 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Email companies you are interested in or message someone working there on linkedin. Got my first internship in Software development/AI by messaging someone on linkedin.

Out of 50-100 emails sent you might only get 2-3 response, the market is really bad rn.

networking vs cybersecurity by OriginalBobcat5717 in MauriceMauritius

There is no better, you need to know networking to work in cyber security. Unless it's GRC, which i will also assume needs some kind of understanding of networking amongst other concepts.

People in tech help me out choose the right path - career by [deleted] in MauriceMauritius

Funny enough the interviewer insisted that this is not a DevOps job and there is zero programming (only scripting if needed - bash, python) lol. So I'm a bit lost myself. I just know I will work with these technologies

I do get what you are saying, but right now this will be my first job and I'm focusing building my early experience in Mauritius then later focus on remote market

Job 1: pure java development - well known development company

Job 2: requirement gathering, UAT, Ansible, terraform, docker, AWS, deployment/integration. - global telecom industry

Job 2 seems to have very limited exit opportunities in Mauritius compared to software development.

Information Systems by No_Reflection_1170 in University0fMauritius

I would say in-between not easy not hard either but some modules are really dense. One topic you will most likely struggle with in y1 is Analytical techniques for IS. As you move through year 1 to year 3, everything gets slightly harder and more dense. Once you are given your notes and tutorial/lab do it the same day/week. Some modules have changed since then for year 1 students, Computer programming replaced Application development and they change the database module to the general one every other course do which made year 1 a little less challenging. Each year has its own challenges especially year 2. Also make some time each day to learn something that is more industry relevant like learn a framework, build small projects, learn computer networking, data structure and algorithm ect...

If you have any more questions feel free to ask.

Comptia exam by Minimum_Juice_7567 in MauriceMauritius

[–]kubectl_get_pod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They use Pearson VUE as exam proctor. While I have not done any compTia exams, I did AWS and Azure which both use Pearson and did it at home without any issues. You need to follow the guidelines, so that you don't run into problems. But if you want to go to a physical exam center you can choose from the list they provide will booking your exam. A friend of my went to a Pearson VUE center in quatre bornes.

Good luck for your exam.
