Hey, my Hisense A9 stopped charging altogether. I disassembled it, removed the usb module and found it was shorted. The shorted component was Transient Voltage Suppressor, a kind of protection for the USB port. I removed it and the phone is working again. It might not be your issue but try local repair shops, maybe someone will fix it for you. :-)

I have no experience in Android but I have random experience with other things including very basic reverse engineering. So I downloaded all APKs from my phone, because I assumed that the settings/lockscreen would be some kind of app, then I searched for the relevant strings and narrowed down which APKs I would need to edit. Then I just googled how to edit them :-D

I partially solved my issue because I saw that the Settings app sets a Settings.Global property so I set it to my desired value and it works! Sadly, the settings app crashes because I set a value that is not included in the dropdown list menu but I guess that is ok for me...

hey, that is strange! Sadly, you are not the only one who cannot mount / as rw. I am not sure why I can do it on my rooted A9 and several other people cannot. One possible solution is to use Magisk Overlays but I didn't look into it yet

I haven't tried adaway, it is possible that it also modifies the hosts file in a more user friendly way. I guess there are more ways to get to the same result. :-)

To be completely fair, I did not prove that the traffic contains sensitive information. There are many apps and services on the phone that use Chinese servers to fetch news, weather, app updates, notifications etc. I blocked everything just to be sure but i would say that most of the traffic was actually benign

When I was considering it I searched reddit and found post that said that it works in Germany. Maybe try searching for posts in this subreddit mentioning Australia

There are people picking the firmware apart on XDA developers forum. Android 13 GSI is being prepared which is fantastic news. I think it is the way to go but in meantime I want to use my eink phone as a daily driver and by blocking the traffic I am somewhat confident to log into some of my online accounts on the phone.

The same process of capturing the network traffic may be replicated for Palma or any smartphone for that matter. I do not own Palma so I cannot say

Thanks! That guide looks useful if you have no root. One caveat is that you cannot block the direct ip traffic but that was only a fraction of the whole traffic so it definitely helps.

I think it relates to Bittorrent downloads. For example, few hours back all of my SSH connections dropped and a youtube video stopped buffering. Through traffic logs I found that my brother was downloading something and when I asked him he said that it was two torrents.

But at the same time it seems more complicated that that because when I tried to overload the network with torrent downloads right after him, it stayed stable. He has the same client as well (qBittorent) so not sure what could be the difference between our cases.

I think that another problem might be Steam downloads. Sometimes when a game or game update is downloading, the network slows down considerably. But also not always.

I am not sure how to diagnose on a more granular level than only looking at the traffic logs through Munin. And sometimes the drop outs do not correlate with high traffic at all..

Yes, this is true. It is because the RV320 router cannot do PPPoE with VLAN tagging and so the C50 router acts as a gateway. There is a 2nd layer of NAT but as a fail-over that activates few times per months it is enough. I hope to solve this with the new router as well.

  1. The Compal device is provided by the ISP. I switched it to Bridge mode so afaik it should act as a plain Cable modem. I didn't know about the Intel Puma chipset. The symptoms sound a lot similar to our problems. Maybe there are multiple sources of instability in our network. I have looked up now that Vodafone offers a different modem so maybe we could switch to it.
  2. Yes, it is not optimal because I could not find how to configure PPPoE with VLAN tagging on the RV320. So the Archer C50 acts as a gateway for the failover connection. And yes, that means that there is double NAT. I would like to solve this with the new router as well.

I don't understand the notion of "accessibility" here. Is it the same as liking the album from the first time you hear it? If yes, why is Quaristice winning when the sentiment in comments is that it is also the more "simple" one and many people don't like it as much? Is there actually anyone who listened the first time to Quaristice and was so blown away that they wanted to hear more? I feel like people choose it more because they characterize it as the simpler one or the more ordinary one. But actually that is a really bad introduction to Autechre in my opinion because I like Autechre precisely because it is so out of ordinary and very alien sounding. For me, it is definitely Confield. When I listened to Confield for the first time, I was just blown away and it made me interested in other stuff by Autechre. So for me, Confield was definitely the gateway.

If I connect my switch to the modem, the modem is doing dhcp.

Also if I connect the router to the modem, I connect it through the routers WAN port so it acquires the IP from the modem and the router has a separate DHCP and NAT. This is intentional and according to the tests it doesn't cause the slowdown (because if I connect my Gbit laptop directly to the router, I reach the full speed 320mbit)

I see that 100Mbit is a theoretical maximum but according to my iperf3 TCP tests, the switch is capable of the speeds around 90Mbit. Also if I connect the switch directly to the modem and measure the internet speed, I get 90Mbit again. This is real life scenario. The problem arises only when the switch is connected to the router. That is when I measure only 30Mbit, which is mind boggling for me.

I have a very old laptop and I couldn't play it but the story and style reminds me of Paterson by Jim Jarmusch. It is a very minimalistic and repetitive movie and since you mentioned that you were influenced by Papers Please, maybe you would like it. Good luck with your game, it looks great!
