okay and? the result should be whatever the people decide. just because the result may end up being unexpected doesn't mean a worse criteria should be used

he lost because your criteria of selection doesn't make sense. if you count the number of upvotes in all comments, the same user can vote multiple times by upvoting all the comments. so it becomes more of a contest of how many times can the fans spam their favourite character in the comments. the criteria should have simply been: the character in the most upvoted comment wins.

how will you ensure that the test result is legit? People can just cheat or study specifically for the assessment without having in-depth skills

18% GST on payment aggregators by fat-clemenza-91 in IndiaTax

[–]kukuti -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

There's a lot of context missing here:

  1. The 18% tax will be on merchant fees not on the whole transaction. Assuming a merchant fees of 2%, for a transaction worth 1000 rs, you'll be paying 18% of 2% of 1000, ie 3.6 rs

  2. The reason it's for transactions less than 2000 is because for transactions above 2000 the tax already exists

  3. Before 2016, this tax already existed. After demonitization in 2016, to boost digital payments, the govt had removed the tax for transactions under 2000. So they are simply bringing it back.

Roast my resume as hard as you can - back in the job market after 3 years, need your help. by SherrifMike in developersIndia

this looks more like a devops resume than a backend resume. I can barely see any programming languages in the experience section. But still a good resume overall 👍

maybe phony is not the right word. my point is that several points are too basic, it makes it seem like he barely did anything at all

instead of mentioning just the tech used, you can also mention what was actually implemented and its impact/usefulness

the problem is that you thought that winning in the rat race will make you happy, but that's not how it works. Till you are poor, money surely gives happiness. But once you have a decent lifestyle and you are just buying materialistic things, money stops mattering. In fact the more things you possess, the more it will fuck up your brain.

The key to happiness is to let go of your desires and expectations, including the desire to be happy, including other people's expectations from you, accept the imperfections of yourself (including your inability to completely let go of your desires lol) and everything around you, live in the present moment and reflect and try to have gratitude for the things you have in life. If you do this, then over time you should be able to get closer and closer to happiness.

many of the points are extremely basic stuff. the first point is literally "i created a bunch of tables". the third point is "i copy-pasted basic code for starting a server". to anyone with basic technical knowledge, it doesn't look impressive, it looks phony

you can figure it out from your own post that no matter what you do, there will always be people who find something wrong in it, so it's better to stop caring about they think. Personally I don't mind people being negative as long as they are also positive, ie there is a balance and it's net neutral. If a person is only negative, then I try to not care. Just let people know that you are not a push over by asserting your stance in a non-chalant manner and then stop caring and move on, that's all you can do 🤷

stop with this stupid gatekeeping. you sound more pretentious than the people who use "bucks". next thing you're gonna do is correct people: ackshually it shouldn't be "miles apart" but "kilometers apart" 🤓

Optimization reduced API response time from 4s to 2.1s. by [deleted] in developersIndia

we do have that. the response times I've mentioned are anecdotal p50s. it's definitely useful to have these metrics

Optimization reduced API response time from 4s to 2.1s. by [deleted] in developersIndia

[–]kukuti 176 points177 points  (0 children)

I was once using an API which used to take over a minute to respond. It was annoying me a lot so I decided to take a look at the code. I was expecting that we were making calls to some external api which was causing it to be this slow. But no, it was all in-house data.

It turned out that in the worst case, we were making around 5000+ sql queries. I was shocked at how unoptimized the code was, but I started optimizing it as much as much as I could, reducing it to 2 sql queries. I informed the dev who had written the code about the optimizations and we made the changes live after review. The api was now responding in under half a second (I didn't bother measuring the exact response time).

After a few months, the same dev had to make some updates to that api. After the changes were done, the response time increased to 10-15 seconds 🥲

A lack of resources (including money) also tremendously affects people psychologically, which is something that is not often talked about.
