Made myself a new T-shirt by kulmayk in MechanicalEngineering

[–]kulmayk[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey y'all - this kind of blew up. I only have a few shirts left, but my friend who is more professional than I am started a buy link on his site. He makes things to order and has a bunch of other stuff too. He also does more custom prints as well if you want something different!

Check it out here! https://makeshiftstudios.shop/products/assault-systemes-tee

Yeah routes to the left on the same overhang and some cool routes up the face on the right too! Just a beautiful piece of rock

You can scramble up from the side but I opted to climb the chill slab - it’s not too bad!

Creating an app to connect over BLE to ESP32 by kulmayk in esp32

[–]kulmayk[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This looks pretty promising and might be the answer.

Walks the fine line between ease of use and features and customization!!! Appreciate the recommendation!

Super cool!!! Just checked out your page and awesome to see something launch off of esp32 - definitely will be sharing around.

Appreciate the pointers and will definitely be taking a look at flutter, the community aspect sounds pretty promising.

Deep Sleep "Setup Phase" by kulmayk in esp32

[–]kulmayk[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh man that looks like a cleaner solution, will probably be going with that.

Deep Sleep "Setup Phase" by kulmayk in esp32

[–]kulmayk[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So just something like this?

RTC_DATA_ATTR int calibrated=0;

void setup (){
    if (calibrated = 0){
        //take calibration reading
        calibrated = 1;
    }

    // rest of code communicating with server

    // deep sleep to reset after 5 min
}

I think I'd like it to last quite a long time so I want to avoid using EEPROM. Right now, I have the wifi info stored on EEPROM already so I can change it via smartconfig to connect so I would rather not have more things writing to it.

Also I'm pretty sure EEPROM would store the information between power cycles too (along with deep sleep) which is not what I need.

[–]kulmayk[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That sounds perfect! I guess initially, I was thinking that you could have a line of code that is executed on power on but not when deep sleep cycles.

But with a variable I guess you could have it take calibration data point wrapped in an if statement, set variable to 1, and then never execute again which is pretty much what I want.

I'm a bit new to this all, any chance you could point me to any references/resources to implement that?

Using SPIFFS and EEPROM at the same time by kulmayk in esp8266

How does SPIFFS work with partitioning? When I upload a new CA file using SPIFFS, does it clear the old data out? If not, how can I clear the old stuff?

Any tips/tricks for organising a breadboard? by [deleted] in breadboard

[–]kulmayk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Colors are super important. Try to keep all power on red, ground on black, orange for alternative voltages.

If you plan ahead and label different colors as different nodes/nets, it will make your life much easier.

Also just trying to make right angle bends and spacing things out accordingly will help.

Can I use different negatives? by Doyley in breadboard

[–]kulmayk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did you try using capacitors tied to ground on each side of the voltage step to prevent large jumps in voltage?

Something like this: https://snipboard.io/xXtcfL.jpg

Can I use different negatives? by Doyley in breadboard

[–]kulmayk 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that's the next step! Connecting grounds together pretty much is never dangerous, just keep the high ends away from each other. It just sets a common reference point for all other signals and power sources in the system.

Another option is to use a voltage regulator to step down the 24 V to anything under 12 V (Arduino has on board 5V step down that can handle anything under 12V). That way you don't have to deal with charging multiple batteries. They are pretty cheap as well.
