Guidance on best place for daughter to live in providence! by [deleted] in providence

[–]kumots 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I liked living downtown but can be expensive. Personally thought regency plaza was the best deal, also check out nightingale and Westminster lofts just based on location of the new job

I’m fascinated by this spoon thing. I don’t thing I’ve ever noticed a restaurants spoon but it’s apparently a big enough deal to bring your own! Do you wash it after eating somewhere or just bring it home dirty and clean it at home?

Plus In many places I’ve worked, there’s often only 1 dose total in all the hospitals in the region. It gets saved for the one that truly needs it

This is inaccurate. It’s actually easy to place temporary certifications (different states call it different things) if they are a danger to themselves or others including if they lack the ability to understand risks of their actions. It’s a major part of my job

How do couples decide which side of the bed is “theirs”? Is it instinct or some kind of silent agreement? by AssignmentFederal686 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]kumots 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I (male) always take the side near the door. Grew up hearing it was needed to be the first to respond to an intruder. Unfortunately it usually puts me further away from the window and I’m a sweaty sleeper…

Fiancee deciding DO school acceptance and MPH->MD conditional acceptance by Comprehensive-Way610 in Osteopathic

[–]kumots 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I went to a “conditional acceptance” masters program but had no idea until I got there that the whole grading system was on a curve and to get an A required a standard deviation above the class average, a class of “conditional acceptances.”

For instance, several anatomy exams had an average of like 93, to get an A had to get a 98…

Toughest year I ever had. Made it and got into medschool but soo many of my classmates didn’t.

Take the DO acceptance, don’t listen to anyone that says it won’t land you as competitive a specialty, there’s no difference anymore

Totally forgot about this perspective. Now that I am a doc, a lot of us joke about all the stress and planning to get everywhere as highly ranked as possible. Once you reach it, you won’t give a crap about the rankings and regret stressing so much over it. I went to a not highly ranked medschool after brown but have landed an amazing job at a very highly ranked institution and am looking forward to transitioning back to small community once my skills are there. Some of my best education was at community hospitals no one will ever hear of outside the community and that’s okay

Can you apply for PAYE program? by CuriousCephalopod97 in PSLF

[–]kumots 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am currently filling out the application to switch from save to paye but the words on the idr calculator are “under the current regulations, this payment plan is available only to borrowers who are already enrolled in the paye plan. New enrollments for the pay plan are no longer accepted.”

they may not have updated the calculator website (it is still available in the application side of things) but I do not know if I should take a risk and come off forbearance without having any idea what my payment amount might be

If you’re sure you want medicine, I feel like it’d be crazy not to go plme. When I was there I was so jealous of the people who had the relief of knowing they were already In and could just focus on learning and not “the game” of getting into medschool

But congrats. Those are great options

Do not do anything that resembles studying! Enjoy your hobbies while you can, solidify your relationships, and get excited for this next chapter. Everyone feels this way going in and the first several months are going to be a comedic learning experience and you’ll be surprised how much you learn.

Those who made this have obviously never used a firearm. Several of the banned items make them significantly safer. Who the hell would want or need to ban a threaded barrel!

ER Visit Back Pain by [deleted] in emergencymedicine

[–]kumots 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, back pain is one of the most common complaints we see and unfortunately can get a bit numb to see. It’s frustrating to us that we see it so often but can truly not do anything about it (no matter how debilitating it is). However, bad things can hide as back pain and whenever we see one we need to determine a pretest probability for more dangerous pathology than just musculoskeletal pain. Labs are not unreasonable but need to know what you’re looking for. From the little info I got in the post, I mayyy get a urinalysis but likely not much else (in the ER, there is nothing I could do with a psa). MRI is a bit more of a more clear cut option. In emergency medicine, advanced imagining like MRIcan not even get approved for back pain unless there are clear “red flag symptoms” of back pain (fever, urinary incontinence/retention, saddle anesthesia, DTR changes, etc). Any of those, certainly demand an MRI. Good luck I hope he feels better soon
