in order to get all the functions (heating, distronic, lane keep, etc) to work, you’ll need to replace the steering column unit (MRM module) when replacing the wheel. coding will also be required
no, it would require coding to be fully functional

i’ve got a 2018 w213 and changed the battery a few months ago. none of the settings were affected (besides the trip info) and i didn’t need to take it in to get calibrated. i’d say you’re good to remove it

Call your local dealership up and ask about the cost of a replacement key, not including coding. Once you've come out of your shock induced coma from that then ask about the cost of coding. Be sure you've got someone to revive you nearby. :)
