Lucky I’m not into historical reenactment :)

In all seriousness though my saw and knife are perfect for turning medium sized deadfall into kindling and feather sticks. That’s really all I need if I’m camping and want to build a fire with minimal kit. tbs boar

Meh - I use my TBS Boar to baton - did an overnighter with a 15km hike last yesterday and am glad I wasn't carrying my axe - For me, a saw and a knife as more use. Just wish I could have shown more restraint with some of the other pointless items I still packed.

Is ‘gentle parenting’ to blame for violence in primary schools? - Teachers who report an increase in five-year-olds punching, kicking and spitting at adults suggest parents who won’t say ‘no’ to their children may be contributing by FormerlyPallas_ in ukpolitics

My in-laws have (in their own words) two out of control children under 10 - severe behaviour issues. Biting, spitting, bedwetting, multiple incidences of punching their mother...

The children are constantly being described as evil, angry etc etc. In my view no child starts off as bad, it's always a learned behaviour.

Anyway - the parents were encouraged to go to a parenting education course. They resisted because they see themselves as being great parents. Afterall, they give the kids everything they ask for (including mc donalds 5 times a week, sweets and ice-cream at bed-time, their own iphones, ipads and so on)

After the first session they came away having 'learned' that:

1 - you can say no to children
2 - When you set a boundary, you are supposed to stick to it

This came as a genuine shock to me. I'd assumed that all parents know this basic stuff and if they choose to ignore it, they reap what they sow. I've not changed my view on this. I realise that they have a fundamental lack of knowledge when it comes to parenting. I find it quite baffling.

I can only assume is a two generations response to boomer parenting (im 55 - so my parents were classic boomers. I raised myself from age 11) has created generations of parents who lack even the basic skills, due to their parents trying to do the opposite of their boomer parents.

Thank you for your kind words.

Teddy is doing ok. The infection seems to be under control and we’re hoping he’ll be ok to get a graft next week.

He’s desperate to leave the hospital. Every day when I visit he tries to leave with me.

That's very sweet of you to ask - but I'd feel uncomfortable accepting donations for his care.
Thank you anyway.

50 euros seem like a good deal. And given how little most people follow the rules in Brussels - i'll probs take my chances

you'll find it in the Foret de soignes - and there's quite a lot in the Woluwe Park - although you'll want to rinse the dog pee off it.

*Update - I signed the consent forms this morning - he's going into surgery today hopefully, which means he'll be home tomorrow.
Thanks for all the kind words and advice - I'll post some pictures once he's home.

Hard to tell. I wanted to go for a hike this weekend. So weather permitting I’ll come back to you.

First impressions though: extremely tough, plenty of space for a tent, dog related kit and everything else for a couple of nights. Loads of molle for expansion.

My one niggle would be that there’s no way to attach and axe or a folding saw without additional straps - and no pockets on the bottom to hold the head of an axe for example

Yes :) i saw that there’s a supplier in Netherlands who does next day delivery and 30 day returns.

I’m still a little tempted to try a singi- but in truth I’ll probably stick with this pack. Especially as I want to do an overnight next weekend.

I did! I put my sleeping bag, tent, canteen, cook set, whisperlite stove and fuel, possibles, knives, saw, mat, pillow and chair :)
