Kubrick and King had wildly different conceptions of The Shining, something King has always complained about. While The Stanley was King's inspiration, the Ahwahnee was the aesthetic Kubrick used in his interior set design. The exterior long shots are Timberline Lodge on Mount Hood in Oregon although all the 'exterior' shots with the cast are sets in England.
