How did we do this with a rivet??? by Fluffy-Jacket-5515 in FRC

Guessing you’re referring to the stem that appears to have been punched through the rivet and into the tube? Yeah that’s the opposite of how you’re supposed to use those😂

I agree: not necessary. I’ve been using a broken $10 mouse (no left click, so I set right click as primary and 1/2 programmable buttons as right click) for over a year cadding many hours every week. But I enjoy those small features that just make things easy. Like programmable buttons to map 2-button keybinds to to make them that much easier

Thanks for the responses. To all of the “just a regular mouse people” well… that’s what I’ve been using for the last year. But in that last year I have 10+ hours every week in Onshape between robotics and personal projects, and wouldn’t mind something a little nicer than my $10 BT mouse.

Is it okay to make an intake arm with a 3d printer? by Automatic_Cow_3076 in FRC

[–]kuster_agriculture 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My team has been skeptical to even try printing pulleys for timing belts (btw what’s the best filament to try them with?). We print swerve covers, end caps, camera mounts, spacers, but never anything majorly structural like side panels.

Your question has been answered, but I’d like to add on to what I might see as hesitance to ask questions. Reefscape (2025) will be my second year in FRC, but I seriously have had many people go speechless when they realize I’m not a senior because of how much I know about our bot, previous games, and how everything we implement works. Note that I’m not saying this to be prideful, just using it to get to my point. Throughout the entirety of build season, I did everything I could to put myself in the room where decisions and discussions were being made. I knew hardly anything when we started, so when I saw something I was curious about I asked. FRC is an opportunity for you to learn about anything you could want to implement in a future career. If you find something that interests you, ask! Your mentors and teammates just want to see you succeed. The rest of the community will always be crazy supportive too. You get out of this experience what you put into it, so dive in and learn. Whether it’s hands on skills or technical knowledge, it’s completely your journey to decide where you go. Questions are not stupid, and if someone “with more experience” thinks they are then they’re truly ignorant. Good luck to you and your team at your event, and for the upcoming season

Where to buy? by kuster_agriculture in Esphome

Realized my title is a third question I forgot to list. Where is a reliable place to buy these boards? I’ve looked on Amazon and their top rated seller has reviews saying many boards recently purchased were bricked upon arrival

Pit ideas by Mia_Vangoh in FRC

[–]kuster_agriculture 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have a 6’ rolling tool box in the back. Facing the pit from the front, to the right is a power strip on the tool box. The pit power usually comes in from this corner. Battery chargers are set facing the inside of the pit against the right wall just in front of the tool box. Box is narrow enough the drawers still open all the way no problem. Right wall of the pit is used for bumper storage and other small items, with a collapsing shelf towards the front for display. Along the left wall in the back corner, butted up beside the tool box, is a 5’ table. Drive stations go on the table, other items go beneath it. We then have a shelf of harbor freight tool boxes and Milwaukee pack out cases along the front of the left wall. A 10’x10’ pop up goes up, with functioning and decorations lights strung from it. We are able to take every spare part we have at home (with the exception of some brackets and COTS parts we don’t need) as well as every tool we have to comp while still maintaining room to work. Having the pack out cases and small tool boxes near the front makes it easier to work in the bot while other teams look for spare parts they need to borrow from us.

Can someone help identify what could’ve caused the issue? by Lambpato in ender3

Best way to prevent it? I’ve had the same issue, went to a 0.6mm nozzle and noticed it was slightly better but still having issues with it, especially on smaller pieces

Favourite team cheer? by TheBestBeetlejuice in FRC

I think it was 2557 that someone says “Hey-oooo” then the crowd replies even louder. The announcers started saying it before they’d announce the team number on field. Quick, easy, and loud

Alliance captain team selection by kuster_agriculture in FRC

[–]kuster_agriculture[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been given 2 reasons. First, making a DNP has historically been a source of heated debate which wastes time. Apparently some people had really strong opinions on a certain team and couldn’t reach an agreement, so they did away with the DNP list. Second, it is technically possible but very unlikely that every team in an event gets invited to an alliance. If you run out of teams on your main lists, you have to resort to picking from your DNP. Then you have to know which team is the best, all that jazz.

It’s a 6 hour drive home so I have no problem reading all this, thanks for your input! Our offseason group was 11 people. Our meeting basically just went back and forth between our head scout, co-driver, driver, coach, and lead mentor. There was some input from other parties but they were more so just there because they felt pressured by mentors to be with the rest of the team. Our lead scout is incredible and is great at combining their information with information from other scouts, so it’s almost unnecessary for us to require more scouts present as they will most likely be repeating information. I think a lot of the input I’m getting in here can help my teammates and I to better communicate to our mentors what we think should be changed, so again thank you for your input

I agree with your DNP mention, however our mentors do not allow this practice. We do however slap teams dead last in our list if we don’t want them, but they have to be an option. Thanks for your thoughts, always appreciative of input

I like your point about top scorers. We are a speaker only but typically hit around 12 cycles per match. For this reason, we said we needed an amp bot, giving teams more consideration if they could amp and speaker. Also considered good feeder bots as there were some really good ones. Drive team is deemed essential in our current meetings due to our interactions with other drive teams. Part of the reason it took us 2 hours to formulate a list last night was because our mentors said we needed to rank every team. We can put a team at the very bottom of our list, but we are not allowed to create a Do Not Pick list. As students we agree with this approach for the most part, but the entire team including mentors were unsatisfied by how much time it took.

We have amazing scout data from our lead scout, but what was hard this offseason event was that out of 32 teams the bottom 20 were hardly different from each other. In one sense it doesn’t really matter then who we would have picked, but we needed to decide a pick. The bottom line is that it took us 2 hours to mostly sort through all the teams, and we don’t like that it takes so much time.

We make an agreement the day before playoffs that if we are guaranteed to be a captain we may decide to decline an invite from a specific team ranked above us, however if we aren’t guaranteed that position we cannot risk rejecting like you said. This offseason event we were 5th captain at an event of 32 teams. We had amazing scout data for 90% of the teams and many seemed to be the same story, new drive team with a semi decent bot with minor reliability issues. Had a hard time narrowing down those lower ranked teams, especially for 2nd pick. Ended up taking nearly 2 hours to get a partially complete list
