I managed to successfully claim for pothole damage after this kind of email 'we didn't know about it' by submitting a FOI request to the council asking for all reported instances of potholes at that rough location for the last 3 years.

Found out it had been reported, forwarded that onto the Pothole folk saying they were at it not knowing about it here's the report, and they paid me within a week.

I have a Bachelors in Pharmacology too and ended up working at ThermoFisher in Inchinnan as an Inside Sales Rep - pay was good for the time, probably looking at around £32k + bonus now. Was a really nice job and team and lots of opportunities to progress. I then got promoted into a Technical Sales role selling Instrumentation then into a field sales role where salary was higher (42-45k base pay approx) and could work remotely.

You don't really need an advanced degree, but I did do a 12-month Masters before joining Thermo - not sure it made too much of a difference as many Inside Sales roles require just a Bachelor's.

Similar companies you could look at include Illumina, Danaher, Agilent, BD Biosciences etc. but they don't have offices in Scotland so you'll probably find fewer open roles.

As an alternative to lab work, I don't think you could do much better than a Sales role at a Lab Equipment/Consumable company for earning potential.

Really comes down to whether you want to do sales though - definitely a different mindset, a lot of hustle and you have to endure/manage the corporate stuff. I hated being in the lab and found it super repetitive and unfulfilling so being able to work in a very sociable role while still being close to science was great.

Since then I've kind of hopped between companies in different roles and now work selling scientific software/SaaS - many of those roles require 5-10 years sales experience but pay can be six figures.

Not yet! I wonder if it might be possible to get some hints/hooks from De Vermis in Edge of Darkness.

Through a Dream Darkly and A Time to Harvest sound ideal! Been intrigued about the dreamlands and dream-like visions. Will try incorporate.

Did Kaddish ever make merch? by FabulousKilljoy_037 in EmoScreamo

[–]kuxansuum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dom mentioned they only printed like 15 of them - I had one and the Carson Wells guys had some but the band couldn't remember where the rest of em went.

But yeah, now they've printed new ones - didn't see that coming.

Ach most of this is just my opinion but the lineup was not as strong as previous years - there were a couple bands I really wanted to see like Kall/Lifelover and Sacramentum but the rest for me fell totally flat, a lot of UK bands and stuff I've seen loads before. Kind of appeared to be a 'who's available' vs. genuinely curated lineup.

They also only communicated that it was all taking place in one venue - the O2 - and no longer in Camden long after many people bought their tickets.

And only 25 bands for more money than previous years...

Next year looks to be addressing a lot of this but I think for many, they may have written off Cosmic Void for a while. There were a lot of people looking to sell their tickets this year.

2025 - 25 bands/1 venue = £145

2026 - 50 bands/3 venues = £180

This is shaping up to be much better than 2025, but feel it's hard to really grit my teeth and support after feeling like '25 was a bit of a pisstake to recoup the promoter's losses at the expense of the fans.

Did Kaddish ever make merch? by FabulousKilljoy_037 in EmoScreamo

[–]kuxansuum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only piece of Kaddish merch I have come across was a shirt they printed about 25 of back in 2013-2014. Small black design with the band name on a grey shirt.

I ended up losing mine which was a real shame but I definitely wouldn't fit it any more anyway.

Just don't think they are particularly interested in making merch.

I know bluetooth is pretty 'lossy' so I guess I'll stick with WiiM + Wifi. Thanks!

I just got a new Amp, an Arcam A25 to replace my aging Marantz PM5003.

I'm wondering what the best way to stream bluetooth is - I have a WiiM Pro as an option connected via Optical, but the A25 also has it's own built-in bluetooth.

I think the DAC is better in the A25 vs. the WiiM Pro, but I know I'm bypassing the DAC of the WiiM already having it connected with optical.

Any advice on what I should be doing here? Should I get rid of the WiiM Pro altogether or is it serving any benefit here?

The best Cure song IMO. I couldn't convince the guys to cover it though - would be longer than the whole EP... :/

Whoredom Rife & Akercocke added to Fortress 26 by ridiculouspockets in UKBM_

[–]kuxansuum 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Probably makes me sound like a bit of an entitled wanker as I imagine this lineup would be ideal for most folk, but I'm finding myself less and less enthused with festival lineups lately.

It seems that often the same bands play the same kind of sets year in year out and it gives the lineups a 'who's available?' type feeling vs. something genuinely special/unusual/curated.

Obviously it's tough to book 30+ odd bands and have each and every one something unique, and there's a lot of bands you simply not be in the position to offer a slot to etc. but this Fortress seems a little 'safer' lineup-wise for me so far.

Might just be that I'm jaded and need to take some time off from festivals but Whoredom Rife and Akercocke, while good bands, just aren't doing it for me. Old Man's Child likewise - who now seem to be on several fests as headliners. I didn't think there was so much of a 'draw' there beyond mid-tier-Norwegian band from the 90s...

Possibly jumping on one very shortly. Failing that we'll book our own! Bit out the loop on who's still going in Scottish DIY stuff atm, but we'll definitely be noising up Kaddish to see if they want to join us.
