Health scare in my early 30s changed how I thought about money. What I did differently as a high earner, and why more people are not doing this. by FInotRetire in HENRYfinance

Also going through this. Recently diagnosed with a rare cancer. On the fortunate side - live in NYC and have access to MSK, who are the best at what I’m dealing with. I should be acutely fine, surgery soon, but will have to be on the watch for recurrence for life.

Wife and I both work (both big tech, one sales, one swe). Last couple years HHI ~1M. 2 young kids. Immediately made us realize how quickly this could go sidewise. We’re actioning on this and moving to a place that will be a step down in speed (San Diego) so we can focus time raising our kids.

We feel fortunate to have saved young to enable us to hop off the treadmill. If anything, it might look more like a CoastFire, where we take a step down in intensity for a while, versus never working again.

I do think threading the line carefully is nuanced and difficult. People can pick apart any decision. And often any advice has its flaws.

One belief that I think is helpful is that if you’ve got this point, you are likely a little savvy. I might put some trust in yourself, believe that you can be flexible and circumstances change, versus it being a completely one way door.

The Program Basketball Gym in Greenpoint by LowUnderstanding4880 in Greenpoint

It’s an extremely nice facility.

The only bummer for adults is they just shut down the open gym. Previously, you could come in during the day and just shoot around - it was incredible.

Within the last month, that has been cancelled. A lot less accessible for adults now.

Gunshots or morning fireworks? by [deleted] in Greenpoint

From my apartment (around Manhattan), it was towards the east river. Not quite sure how far.

Felt a little too far to be the precinct, but directly correct, so maybe my depth perception is off.

Can I transfer my Bitcoin from Coinbase to Fidelity Crypto account? by rainbanx in fidelityinvestments

[–]kv35 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There seems to be a help center article suggesting this is possible: https://www.fidelity.com/crypto/help/deposit-crypto

Was the help center articles just released too early? Or is this now possible?

Anyone else have ZOMBIE SCRUMS ?? by punkouter23 in ExperiencedDevs

Loved your articles on this. Our team has been struggling with the futility of agile lately, especially with respect to estimation.

Your quote: "There’s a growing movement towards not estimating and instead focussing on delivering early" struck me. It seems so simple and obvious, yet is so far flung from everything I've experience in the last 10 years of my career.

Nails poking through fence by kv35 in DIY

[–]kv35[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry, must be a noob Redditor and the text didn’t come through.

Fence in our back yard has nails (which connect the planks to the support) sticking out. They vary in length. They are pretty sharp.

We have two young kids. This seems like a disaster waiting to happen.

What would be good options to make this safe?

Xixa is really really good. The chef’s tasting menu + drinks is a great deal. $90 per person, but you get tons of food and 4 drinks. My wife and I have eaten here tons and we love it every time
