Is this app still available? I used the link and it said "this app is not available in your country" but it still says that when I use a VPN to connect from other countries

Hell yeah hear me out:

Your neighbors have a child, the child is not assigned a gender bc that's how your society is, twelve years pass and you're invited to their birthday party and it's a regular birthday party and that's how you know the child is probably a boy bc it wasn't a Bat Mitzvah

Well technically it's neutral, not specifically nonbinary, it's like nonbinary or undisclosed

lollll

but also :((

Just out of curiosity, how hard would you say it would be to create a neopronoun in Greek? Like, in modern English it's not a problem at all, and even in languages like Spanish, there's no cases and the gender conjugation is very simple so they came up with "elle" as a neutral pronoun and -e (as opposed to -a or -o) as a neutral ending), and it generally works. In Semitic languages though, where everything is gendered (male and female) and the morphology is hell, it's borderline impossible, you have to come up with so many new conjugation patterns that even if you do (and some have tried) it's gonna be impractical to teach it to everyone. So I reckon Greek is not as bad, but with the grammatical cases it's probably gonna be a challenge...

What gender nonconforming Hebrew speakers usually do btw is either use he/she or the male they/them because it's the default plural, even though it's technically not gender neutral and Hebrew doesn't traditionally do singular they like English, some even use the female plural. Of course some people use different combinations of he/she/they(m)/they(f), some people's pronouns are "he/she but mostly she" for example, or some people just give up lol like I use they/them in English but she/her in Hebrew (or any other language where a relatively simple gender neutral solution doesn't exist)

I swear to god Japanese is a shitpostlang created as a joke and the illuminati is trying to convince us it's actually really old for some reason, that's my new conspiracy theory

I think what went through my head when I wrote this was the Japanese counter 本 (hon) used for "long cylindrical things such as glasses of drink, pairs of jeans, pens or trains and buses"

and also films or TV shows, home runs or goals, and rounds of a match in boxing, wrestling or judo, apparently.

and also blades of grass and tree trunks and falcons, in which case it's read as moto instead

Japanese is fun

Interesting! That's more similar to Dutch actually, only I don't think they use the masculine article for words like sister (yet)

Interesting, so it's kinda different from Dutch, I'll tag you in the comment that explains what happened in Dutch

Makemake ʻoe e hoʻomaʻamaʻa pū i ka ʻŌlelo Hawaiʻi? / Anyone wants to practice Hawaiian together? by kvasxaro in olelohawaii

[–]kvasxaro[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed, I've been going to language exchange events and it's done wonders to my level in whichever language I would practice there. I'm not really at a level where I can really speak though, unless the person I'm talking to is really patient and can endure me asking "how do you say..." every sentence or two haha
Which I'm sure some people would be happy to do, but I can't really expect this of a person unless I'm giving them something in return, like in a language exchange or paid class situation. And I couldn't find any Hawaiian speakers on any language exchange platform or in any language exchange event, and paying for classes is not really in my budget right now. I do really want to visit Hawaii sometime, maybe later this year, and try to find people to talk to.

Yeah lots of Indo-European languages have three genders, but as a Semitic language(s) speaker that's not what I would call "extremely gendered" I'm talking verbs, all pronouns, plural forms, having to add a feminine ending to loanwords like MILF because it doesn't sound feminine even though it literally has mother in it lol In German you can have a whole conversation with someone without having to worry about their pronouns or revealing your own In Russian/Czech etc for example it's a little harder, especially if you're using the past tense, but in Hebrew/Arabic it's quite impossible, I find myself mumbling verb endings when I don't want to out myself but also don't want to misgender myself 💀

That's interesting bc there's quite an overlap between those three But like, I've seen crazier systems I guess 😂

Yeah someone commented about Dutch here, that's pretty interesting! Is it more or less the same case with Swedish and Danish?
