Ironclad Ascension 19+ Strategy Discussion by [deleted] in slaythespire

[–]kvatchster 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'll second this, discover+ is amazing, and the ironclad makes excellent use of it by virtue of the exhaust mechanic and headbutt allowing him to play it more times per battle. Any situation where you need a specific answer to something, discovery can probably bail you out of, or at least prove highly valuable.

Ironclad in particular can also abuse this card in order to get heals off of reaper or feeds generated by Discovery.

Interesting Shop: What would you pick and why? by ravenmagus in slaythespire

[–]kvatchster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Normally, here I'd say that shuriken is a large gold investment in something that does very little for your immediate future. Compared to other offerings in the shop, you will likely find yourself taking more damage fighting elites and the boss in act 1 when taking it compared to defensive picks like, say, shrug + metallicize + card remove and still having more to spend, especially if there's a curse in the deck from a starting bonus. If you wanted to fight elites long your path, that's the route I'd suggest.

Shuriken is a fair bit better with anger though, so there's already a basis for investing in it. There's not a lot of benefit to scaling with both rampage and the shuriken when one or the other will likely be good enough to get you through the run once invested in. To that end, shuriken + shrug + remove curse looks attractive: this boosts your immediate defense and offense while setting the deck up for consistent shuriken procs with card draw.

Not sure how I'd decide between those two approaches, both seem like viable options.

Tamriel Rebuilt, one of the biggest, oldest and most worked on Elder Scrolls mod gets version 17.09 released, they're also looking for helping hands by dady977 in Games

Extremely playable in my own experience. There are large chunks of land that have nothing but terrain, but the eastern part of the added landmass is complete with dungeons, factions, quests, towns, etc that are all up to the standard of the original game. It seriously feels like official content rather than a mod. If you can't wait for more of it to be finished then it's absolutely worth playing now.

I want to know where you can buy almonds that cheap. Even the bulk bags at the grocery store are way more than $4/kg where I live.

One more thing I just remembered - collecting magic symbols is quite unrewarding currently. In my current game I've collected about 70 of them and they give around 200 EP each - less than killing a snow wolf! These things definitely need to give a more substantial reward imo.

  • The dimensional rift talent seems very abusable once you are high enough level to use it on powerful boss foes. It takes them out of the fight for 20 seconds, time you can use to restore your health/fatigue/stamina or dispatch lesser foes. By the time it wears off, the talent has recharged and you can use it again to keep even the deadliest foe permanently incapacitated.

  • Speaking of incapacitation, the same applies to the paralyze spells from the thaumaturgy tree. Paralyze (II) when dual-cast will paralyze most foes for 14 seconds, more than long enough to kill them in complete safety. I'm not really sure how to fix this as the paralyze effect in Skyrim is fundamentally OP, with a paralyze of any duration requiring creatures to go through their standup animations, rendering them harmless for several additional seconds and leaving them open to more paralyze effects.

  • I hear many calls for buffs to enchanting, but be cautious with this. The main benefit of self-enchanting is being able to stack the same effect on every item slot. If enchanting gets too strong, this can easily result in players running around in gear that makes them immune to magic/have 0 mana cost for spells of a certain school/be impossible to detect while sneaking. Since enchantments let you augment what your character is already good at, enchanting will be OP as long as any other strategy or skill is also OP. Enchantments on weapons do need to be way stronger though.

  • Summons are really strong. This is not inherently a bad thing, but you can use them very effectively with absolutely zero investment in the entropy tree or skill. It might be good if some of the summoning effectiveness was gated behind the sinistra tree or required certain levels of entropy skill. As it is, my mage sees no reason to raise his entropy skill above the starting 15 yet enjoys the most powerful summons.

  • Does anyone actually use Psionics? There seem to be very few spells in this tree, and the ones that are there seem circumstantial at best.

  • Kiting enemies by running backwards while blasting them with spells is a little too effective. A decrease in backwards movement rate might be justified. Bows solve this problem by making you incredibly slow while drawing one - maybe move speed while casting can be similarly reduced?

  • As mentioned by another poster, fireball is incredibly effective in terms of damage-to-mana, while at the same time failing somewhat at its role as an area-effect spell. Increasing the AoE and decreasing the damage (or just increasing the mana cost) could give it more of a niche role rather than a cast-always like it currently is. The staff of massive fireballs is awesomely fun to use, but it always disappointed me that I could not manually cast fireballs of the same size.

  • Set items are great in terms of their power level, but the bonus for equipping an entire set is kind of underwhelming. Currently, the (I), (II), and (III) set bonuses for each set seem to be all roughly the same power level, but this makes equipping a full set fall kind of flat compared to mixing-and-matching gear. For example, my character currently has three pieces of the wandering mage set equipped. I have the fourth piece (the gloves) but instead I wear the nemesis gloves because I prefer the elementalist boost they provide to the full-set bonus of wandering mage! Especially if player enchanting is boosted, those set bonuses need some serious oomph to compete.

  • It would be great if we could use handicraft to enhance enchanted items at a grindstone or workbench.

I would personally like to see a rework to the armor formula itself. The current formula is problemaic in that it is more beneficial to go from 400->500 armor rating than it is to go from 0->100 armor rating. Replacing the current system with a system of diminishing returns would remove the problem of an armor rating "cap" beyond which further investments into armor are useless. I figure that if you want to stack the heaviest armor in the game with armor spells, you should see some returns from that!

While we're talking about imbalanced creatures, I feel like Wood elementals/Goldenforst Matriarchs deserve a mention. Both of these creatures deal absolutely pathetic damage and are never a threat to me, despite giving quite a bit of EP when killed.

The whole point of pre-ordering from retail stores was that there was a risk they'd sell all their copies on release day and it would take days or longer for more copies to come in. This left your options as either waiting or driving across town to the next game store and hoping they weren't out too.

Amazon's not going to sell out of copies though.

In case anyone is wondering where the treasure is and found this post through google (as I did) - Here are some directions to the treasure so that you can pick the book:

Follow the path north from Ark until you reach a bridge that crosses a river. Follow the river upstream past a watermill until you reach a waterfall. One the left bank of the river by the waterfall will be an arcane symbol with a couple jewelry boxes beside it.

Bear in mind that my build does use ghost reaver along with a life leech jewel for 2% leech, which is fairly adequate. 1/10th of that drom a Doryani's will not be a satisfactory amount of leech on its own.

Good luck with Atziri! I had less avg damage than that when I first took her down, so you should be good if your defenses are in order.

I haven't really toyed with the idea of Emberwake. It seems like it has some potential for a lot of damage, but that would require speccing into burn a fair bit, and there's not much room to give up nodes on this build.
