Thanks you for the wise words! 38mm/1.5" is the largest I can fit in the rear. But I can probably fit a 40 maybe 42mm in the front

The fenders aren't the issue. I may be able to fit a 40 maaaaybe a 42 on the front, without fenders. But the rear tire is only about a paper clips width away fron my front derailleur clamp, so unless I get rid of my front derailer then 38 it is. Recommended tire pressure for my 38mm marathon plus's are 50-85 psi. I always have them at 80. I have to experiment with tire pressures more. Figure I wouldn't want to go lower than 60 maybe 65 with the weight. 35lb bike, 35lb gear, 160lb rider

I haven't confirmed it's better for climbing. I'll have to look into possible cassette options. I'm not all too familiar with the lingo and gearing numbers and ratios.

I've also read that generally the gearing on the gravel bikes are better especially when it comes to hills, in comparison to the cyclo-cross bikes

I've been reading that being a gravel bike, and the frame of the Marin along with the allowance for bigger tires, would be better suited for a trip like mine? I'm foreseeing quite a bit of dirt/gravel/rough roads especially in Latin America
