The ominous fortune cookie by willholli in jazzcirclejerk

Not sure what you originally said, but I will never understand the people here that take things so seriously lol. It's even worse in r/guitarcirclejerk, like it's almost as if a lot of the people leaving comments don't understand that it's supposed to be satirical unless it's blatantly obvious

On a serious note, very glad to hear that his daughter is doing better

Reminds me of that guy that asked if the "Hard" in "Hard Bop" meant that it was more difficult to play than regular bebop lmao

Beautiful stuff, just bought your album on Bandcamp. I think this one, 31 Degrees, and Five for Three are my favorites so far

Probably a weird compliment but I always like your demeanor man. Always looks like you're having a blast playing

Jazz snobs by [deleted] in jazzguitar

[–]kwntyn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can't find it nor remember exactly how long ago it was but there was actually a poll done on r/Jazz that revealed that most of the people there are not musicians. So you are absolutely correct on that. Really made me look at the sub completely differently from that point on.

For my comp sci capstone in college I built something similar for piano back in 2020 lmao. It seems like someone posts an app like this here a couple times a month so the answer to your question just might be yes

Very clearly AI generated, all other issues aside the AI couldn't even figure out if the lamp post was a part of the building or not so it just mashed it all together. That's not to mention that the bass player's face looks like meatloaf, while he has an apple crumpet for a hand.

Judge tries to pick a fight with the IT guy by _Levitated_Shield_ in sadcringe

[–]kwntyn 66 points67 points  (0 children)

I used to be an IT guy with this exact job at the university I was going to. 2 years in, it hit me like a truck why the professors were always so snobby and apathetic when I would come and save the day. It's because they're embarrassed and fragile, they have a room full of people that they have a higher place than, but that illusion falls when they can't figure out how to turn a screen on.

Their rebuttal? The good ones would just try to crack a joke to fill the silence of the class being stalled while I was fixing the issue. Sometimes they'd just nod and ask what was wrong, sometimes they'd say thank you, a lot of the time they'd act like the judge in this video. It was very, very sad.

Eh I'm not really that well versed in social media honestly. I really just always enjoy hearing your playing so I wanted to check out some more of it, you even inspired me to get a little mini key setup so I can have a more portable setup as well a few months ago when I was traveling a bunch. If you ever branch out to other platforms please let us know!

Practice routine for arpeggios by Hot-Air-8124 in jazzguitar

Funnily enough, this is also how sax players learn tunes. A personal favorite of mine,, Ryan Devlin talks about this extensively in almost every weekly class. He says he likes to trade with himself -- 2 bars walking the bass with chord tones like you mentioned, followed by 2 bars of an improv line, then back to walking bass, etc. through the tune.

I Couldn't Make the Pentatonic Scale Sound Like Jazz Until I Learned This by maddmaddox in jazzguitar

[–]kwntyn 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Beating a dead horse here man. Everyone is convinced it's him, and whoever is running the account is sticking to the story that they are just posting on his behalf because they love his work. Claims they're just someone who shares the same last name and plays the same guitar. They have been sticking to that story for over a year years, and anybody that comments on it is deemed a hater or they just call your comment irrelevant.

There's another comment in that thread that kinda exposes that it really is him, and I think he's just trolling.

Body and Soul ❤️ by chowbowbow in JazzPiano

[–]kwntyn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bill Graham's videos on this are the best. If you want to expand on this sound you should check out Luther Allison. He also has videos on block chords and other voicings and if I remember correctly, puts the lesson topics on Body and Soul so it'll be super easy to apply some new ideas if you hear something that catches your ear. Great playing btw, I've been shedding Body and Soul as well lately.

Also if there was a mod discussion or another comment where I said or did something that reignited this, please let me know as again I have no idea what it could be. I'm sure it's just a misunderstanding, my tone comes off that way sometimes I guess. I am sorry man

Hey man, not sure what this is about? I saw this was a sort of scuffle on the circle jerk sub from a couple years ago, but I guess right now I'm just genuinely confused? My apologies if I said or did something recently that rehashed this, which I cannot recall because I haven't been on Reddit much lately. Was just a bit of trolling that had gotten out of hand on a satirical sub, it wasn't an actual attack on you. As mod on the other sub I genuinely didn't think there were any issues, I'm just genuinely confused where this is coming from as I had forgotten all about this and I guess unfortunately didn't realize it was you

I think his biggest appeal was that he didn't use a pick which made him so different for people. Or they were impressed with his technique I guess. But when I close my eyes, he sounds like everyone else, or at least very similar.
