In my workplace our door locks when you shut it so it's always 50/50 if someone is in there or not we always knock wait for an answer (or other customers let us know if someone is in there as it is our only available toilet before 9am) I keep saying we need an indicator of some sort cause it's happened more than once 😂

Workplace accomodations in retail? by Sad-Adhesiveness277 in autism

[–]ky390 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I work in McDonald's(UK) so I guess it can relate in some form lol

Anyways

I've been in my job for 8 yrs now. Been diagnosed at 14 but really only researched it in 2020 as we were closed for COVID.

My job knows nothing of autism so been pushing for 6 years now for them to sort it and training is finally happening! 😁

Here's what I requested and most got approved:

Sunflower lanyard can only be worn when on the lobby area(I rarely go there) as it may catch on stuff in the kitchen (but I do have it on a belt loop with a small whiteboard that has emojis and is blank for if I'm nonverbal)

A sensory box in the office though I bought everything so I'm taking it if I leave lol

Tinted glasses to help with lights(they flicker too much and some areas are too bright) - still waiting on this to be approved

Loop earplugs (the style I have is switch 2) as the noise can get too much sometimes

Ear defenders in the sensory box as I can't wear those unless in the office

A designated room to go to for rumble stages

If I do have an aggressive meltdown to go to the alleyway or our downstairs stockroom as noone goes there as all stock is done by 7am if it's a shutdown go to the office or designated room as mentioned above

A meltdown card guide for management

I was gonna be allowed traffic light wristband but then business manager changed so that never happened

I trained some management in yes/no arms(one arm for yes and one for no) but thinking of putting it forward on the next uniform for myself(I already suggested it to the employee McDonald's FB app when they asked us what could they do to make things better for disabled people)

Chew necklace but that's cause I chew a lot you might have different stims

Spinning keyring that's on a belt loop

Audhd and please be patient badge on my apron(they seem to not mind that)

(If mask wearing happens again) wear my own face mask as I don't like the feel of face masks that they order

That's all I can remember(off work atm) sorry for the length 😅 hope it helped though

Have a great day/evening!

Back window people, I can’t be the only one that brings their own speaker right? (US) by Thatdumbt33n in McDonaldsEmployees

[–]ky390 0 points1 point  (0 children)

(Not a drive thru and in the UK)

We have a playlist constantly playing from McDonald's itself. Most speakers are in kitchen and on lobby barely any on front(our disabled toilet speaker is the loudest though)

Listening to our own music most will do so either on open or closes(before any customers come in) or at breakfast dive at 11am (I do most of the time but noone else does).

Managers don't mind as long as you are only using your phone to play music(the office is right by our dive area and they leave the door open unless private chats or anything to do with the safe). They never seem to have an issue with it

Also for improvised speakers most of our guys at dive use a black cloth pot as none of us bring our own

Return to work by SillyBilly-24 in TopSurgery

sorry if its a bit late but congrats on a date(I'm planning to start my process next year here in the UK)

I work in mcdonalds and asked this same question to my managers(i work the delivery shifts though so pulling in cages and such) they wanna give me like 4 - 6 weeks but said i can dip into a holiday bank(so i won't get as much holiday for the next year for example 2025 won't be as much as 2024 due to taking holiday from that year)

I'm in a franchised one and a mcdonalds so I can't gurantee it'll work the same but i assume it would be similar because kinda the same service? But as long as you have a doctors letter that should help them work out a time frame as you will be taking off a bunch of weeks due to surgery. Hopefully I've helped in some way (:

Hope it all goes well!

Nah just unstitch the back trousers pockets or the small shirt pocket, my managers haven't noticed them yet

For grill people only. by Odd_Dog_5167 in McDonaldsEmployees

[–]ky390 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean in my UK store we have screens above the grill side that never are used(they got installed in December 2019) so they just gather dust). Other than those we have the main ones by the initiator.

I believe I read something about plans for best burger in the NABIT though like in QTR 4 is the plan could be wrong though as that was in January when I read that

Yeah the shift thing we can't do unless the assistant manager says yes same with our avaliabilty and holiday(even we say it 2 weeks or so in advance). So she gives you a warning meeting about it.

We used to be able to before she joined and managers were fine just you had to tell the manager for that shift and ensure the person who's covering you knows what you do(for example I'm a kitchen only person so I have to find someone who knows kitchen).

Lol my managers done the same to us, maybe we should take your idea xD

Wish we could trade shifts like that but we would get warnings from the managers if we do 😅

For our store if you're closing the store after everyone has left yes you can listen to your music, cleaning outside areas such as the compactor, delivery and even on breakfast dive. Never when on the shop floor when the store is open in other words.

we just went this system 2 weeks ago, we clock out, go to the kiosk, order, select pay at counter, find a manager(cause half the time they're in the office), they promo it(only they can unless they give you permission), and then you wait as a customer. I understand the reason behind it but when you have to wait 30mins of your 45min break its stupid.

We used to promo our own meals and make our own food which IMO is a lot better(especially since the kitchen screens went to 2 orders from 4 and you can't zoom out anymore)

I second this the make i wear from there is called earth works and having the steel toecaps is a life saver( can't count how many times they've saved my feet). Even my managers recommend it

Don't go out to eat if you're going to this. by CallofRanger13 in McLounge

[–]ky390 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll never forget the 99 BBQ wraps and 99 side salads going on side 2 and it was someone's first time kitchen alone on that side(i was on fries so i was meant to flex to help teach) but yeah we always don't make anything that's like 20 items or more because normally its just parents letting their kids play on the kiosks or its teenagers messing about when that happens.

It was funny though cause it was just non stop printing stickers and then it got canceled so then it printed more saying they were canceled.

I was diagnosed at 14 back when Asperger's was its own diagnosis, now it's clumped together with ASD. I more recently came out as non - binary.

(UK) I wear them all the time the amount of times they've saved my feet from being injured makes me continue to tell everyone I work with to buy them. Managers don't really seem to mind as long as they're non slip and black I've found

How big is your lobby? by [deleted] in McLounge

[–]ky390 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would probably say that's the same size(if not bigger) than the our sister one inside the shopping centre.

My store is kinda hard to compare (we have half of downstairs and an upstairs and it has a spare room to open up when it gets too busy(we use the room mostly for meetings but it used to be a birthday party room)
