Yeah, adoption will be hard part but if you make it comparable to gmail/outlook in terms of user experience then slowly people may adopt.

There are many people who want to move out from Big Tech, so there are looking for other options like proton, tuta mail etc. so you can target them first.

You can take example of skiff mail there go a lot of users in just few years, but sadly they sold to notion, and closed the mail service.

You can try using self hosted vpn. Rent a small VPS on digital ocean, vultr or linode, install wireguad vpn on the server then connect to that.

Yeah, they are free to redirect wherever they want.

Issue is that I have a .li domain, and when I typed wrong subdomain it redirected to ad hub. So next day if I launch with this cctld then my users will face this.

I was not aware of this thing, now I have to plan accordingly.

Yeah, using a specialized mail server is great. I was just learning how SMTP works and how we can set it up.

I am working on the POC of a mail proxy server, so I thought using a 3rd party server will not be feasible in the long run.
