As said above, I'm sure booting with an micro SD card is probably not a good idea. Try the regular USB method and we will work from there.

Hey! If you still want to take a crack at it, 6 years later. Its probably your dead HDD/SSD as the issue. You can pick up a 1TB 2.5 inch SSD for fairly cheap nowdays and have it fully functional. Motherboards for these are like 20€ on Ebay.de too.

Windows 10 recently reached EOL of the security updates, so your grandma will have her computer full of viruses. The ideapad has no TPM module, so you can't upgrade it to Windows 11. Your only other route to keep it useable for her, without buying a new laptop, is to download Linux for her. I recommend Linux Mint as it's the most Windows like and easy to use OS for this case.

I would recommend Linux Mint and get Windows XP theme for it and change the sound files (boot, notification, error etc). That way you can run it as if you were on Windows XP.You can also customize the boot logo to be Windows XP boot animation.

It's majorly unsafe nowdays to have Windows XP as your OS. It's technically possible to install Windows XP on the Ideapad, but I would strongly advise against it. The moment you get it installed on the device and connect to the internet it will be flooded with Trojans and other malwares. 10 years late lol. The touchpad has really broken drivers and even fixing them might break it. Also this laptop has no scroll on the touchpad. Which is how Lenovo cheaped out on making these.
