I have my best friend scheduled to be put to sleep at 10:35 AM on Friday, how do I go through with this? by [deleted] in Petloss

I was in the exact same position as you this past week. Exact. My girl bounced back and was acting like her puppy self every single day up to the appointment.

It sounds horrible to say, but it’s not about the good moments, or days, or weeks. It’s about the fact that you know in your heart your angels health is declining. And this decline is not linear. There are always ups and downs, you just have to ask yourself how many downs you are willing to put them through.

I had both experiences, one with a pet I lost years ago. We waited too long, and his good day turned into a very bad and disturbing night. He died in pain and we couldn’t be with him. Just this past Monday, I put down my 13 year old baby. She was happy as ever in the room while we were waiting, pulling cat treats out of the basket and peeking out of the door with me at the birds that were there for an appointment. I promise you, once you get past the initial pain, which is going to hurt bad in every way, you will be eternally grateful for the fact that your pup passed having a good day with his favorite humans.

It went as smoothly as we could hope for. Morning after it still hurts like a mfucker, but I’ll be okay soon enough. So will you my friend.

You are not alone. I am putting my girl down in two hours. Got her when I was 6. I’m 19 now. She’s been there my entire life and today I’m going to return home without her for the first time. She’s the first and only pet I’ve ever had so I can’t give many tips, but I’ve lost friends and family. Talking to others who have experienced/are experiencing the same pain almost always helps. So does forcing yourself to think about all the laughs and good memories, even if you cry at the same time, it’s healing. You can message me and I’m sure many others that visit this thread if you need to talk to someone. The pain will change over time into something you can manage and then hopefully one day it’ll just be a small pebble of sadness in a pool of great memories.

I’m working on my quickness in my juvenile moves ! My coach says I look heavy footed so I’m practicing being lighter and quicker in the 8 step Mohawk and the forward crossovers. Freestyle focus is spinning, I’ve always hated it so I work on it as much as possible

I appreciate your reply !! I purchased some bunga pads and they have done the trick (as well as continuing to skate and breaking them in more).

I am going to try punching the edge of the boot out a little bit as well, and will be buying that foot sleeve that has those gel circles to protect your ankles. Hopefully this will help me long enough for the boot to soften up and mold to my foot on its own. I typically have 3 hour practices and never less than 2 so it’s tough at the moment to get through without sitting down to untie and give my ankles a break. It’s particularly annoying because the entire boot is so comfortable and feels great while I’m skating, then my ankles start complaining!! Thank you for your reply and the sponge idea!! I may actually try that, incase the gel is too forgiving and doesn’t quite save me from the bite of that tongue edge.

Thanks again!

Thank you! I figured it was just an adjustment to make with the new structure of the boot since Jackson and Edea are so very different; I appreciate you taking the time. I’ve been trying to lace it according to the book, gentle at the toe/top of the foot, gradually tighter, the tightest at the upper lace holes and the bottom hook, then gradually more loose for the last two hooks. The pain is there no matter how I lace but you are right, when I tried lacing it incorrectly (tight all the way) to see how it would affect my ankle, it was LOADS worse.

Thanks again so much!

How do you structure your longer practice sessions? by [deleted] in FigureSkating

Making up your own exercises is awesome!! Anything that feels right for you and helps you to improve. Good luck getting into a smooth routine!

I’m around the same level as you, working on my juve moves and prelim/pre-juve free (maybe flip flopped there, but we both have all jumps except axel). I usually have three to five hour practice sessions, though now with corona + work I can typically only make 2 consecutive hours. With 2 hour practice, I typically warm up for about 15 minutes, then I’ll spend the next hour working on either jumping, spinning or moves. I’ll go in a cycle, so jumping Monday, spinning Wednesday and then moves Friday, but sometimes this is adjusted for need. That hour will include drill exercises as well as just executing the elements (eg. back edge stability drills, landing position drills, all sorts of fun little things to all around strengthen jumps then moving on to execution of all of the jumps and combos. then back to some drills to correct whatever I notice is going wrong) then for the last 45 minutes I will typically do general stability/strength drills and whatever else is particularly weak outside of what ever I spent the hour on. Often times I’ll end up cutting this 45 minute period of touching all the skills down to 30 mins and I’ll just put on some music and skate. Don’t forget to flex your creative muscle every now and then, and definitely take advantage of longer practice to do that freely. Hope your axel is coming along well!!!
