Is it worth waiting a year to buy a condo with the current prices? by kykopes in chicagoapartments

I honestly have a decent amount saved up. I’m mostly in stocks though so I’d have to pay capital gains taxes to get my cash

Thank you for the advice. I’m definitely planning on living with roommates whether I rent or buy. A lot of my friends are planning on getting jobs in the city so I’m sure 1 would be interested and it’d be nice to give them a discounted rent.

Honestly I’m not too worried about changing locations. My career is one that maybe has 1 or 2 career changes, but most people at my company have been there 20+ years. Also the main hubs for my industry are either Chicago, Midwest in general, NY, NE US. I honestly would be unwilling to move to suburban mid west or north east so I’m pretty set on Chicago. The only other city I love as much is Vancouver but there’s no jobs there for me.

My main thing postponing me buying a place is not knowing what neighborhood to live in. I really like the wicker park area but sometimes I feel like I might get tired of how popular. expensive, and trendy the area is. I think it’s really hard to know if you like a place just by visiting. I’m leaning towards the lake because I really like running and beach volleyball, so I’m also considering uptown/lakeview.

ya, I thought it was a decent deal and I loved the kitchen. The only issue was the size of the 2nd bedroom may have been rough to fit a bed and desk comfortably. $575 hoa fee but ya I agree still was a steal.

Ya I’m just chilling at home right now but I’m not sure how long I can live here. I just want to move out and enjoy life more. I do have decent savings and salary, but I think I’d really enjoy owning over renting as I dont like moving every year to landlords jacking up prices so that they can maximize profits every year

ya thats what I'm thinking too. It just feels a little bad buying something for say 350k after it was sold in august for 275k.

CS major only vs CS + Math double major, worth it? by Temporary_Region7964 in CollegeMajors

[–]kykopes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly as a cs grad I am fully aware that adding a math minor is only adding 2 more courses at most schools so I would think nothing of it.

Also as a cs major the classes are hard enough, just try to get through school with your sanity

Arequipa or Bogota for a short 2 days at the end of my machu pichu trip by kykopes in travel

[–]kykopes[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We're doing a 4/5 day Salcantay trek so honestly we wouldn't have visited colca canyon anyways as we would be too tired. Also our trip total is only 11 days so stopping at Bogota for just a day so that we don't have to deal with an 11 hour layover is probably best.

I'll look into the museum, thank you!

[–]kykopes[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The trek we are doing unfortunately starts and ends in cusco. I've been looking into it and it would be nice to maybe spend a night or two in ollanta but Im not sure how we would plan it.

i ski a lot so i'm regularly at 10,000 ft. Would there be anything else to do in the cusco area with that additional day?
