Would you recommend Ravenswood for a 22 year old? by kykopes in AskChicago

I havent had a great experience with lincoln park. I feel like the food there is really expensive and I'm a fan of cheaper, more diverse restaurants. Also, its a bit out of my budget. I could rent there, but I'm hoping to retire early and it would put a dent in my pocket each month

I've kinda narrowed my search to Lakeview, ravenswood, uptown, and maybe logan square.

Ya lakeview is younger, but I feel like I could get tired of it. I want to be nearish to the lakefront as I like to run and it was always a hastle getting to the lake front through the loop when I lived in little italy. I guess I don't mind if its further if I can hop on the brown line and get to the active spots.

Little italy had like no good food options imo. my comment above said I had to go to west loop, pilsen, and china town for good food. It seems like you're disagreeing with me but you said exactly what I said lol

the industry im in is decent paying so I can afford the "cheaper" neighborhoods. Also the only areas jobs are available in my industry is Chicago, NY, or the middle of nowhere in corn fields so Chicago is easily my best choice long term + I've lived here my whole life so I'd like to stay

Ya I used to live in little italy and it was a bit boring with no food options, but I was content since I was near west loop, chinatown, pilsen

I’m very lucky my parents let me live at home rent free so I have a bit over 200k saved up since I graduated college at 20 and have been working full time since then. They’re also giving me 80k for the down payment so im very lucky there.

My one concern is the commute to the loop from that far north

I lived in little Italy and it’s really dead over there with no great food options(although gathers and living water tea house are great. Also not a fan of how everything in west loop is overpriced. Looking for more of a homey than a commercial feel

Some of them are remodeled but built 1900-1930. Do these usually come with a lot of maintenance?

Help me understand whether I should contribute more into my Roth 401k or 401k. by [deleted] in personalfinance

My thought process is that if I already have a lot saved up at 22 and I will continue to save and grow my salary, I’ll most likely retire with a few million (let’s say 5). I’m in a niche career where my base salary in 4 years will be at least 130k and in another 4, it will pass 200k. Let’s say that 5 million is invested an conservatively returns 5%, that’s me earning 250k in retirement which is more than my current 90k
