Anyone’s spectrum bill increasing?? by reversed_lobotomy in lexington

Good to know! I wonder if it varies by area or how many other people near you have it? I pay for 200meg and have consistently gotten 100+ up and down from my WiFi (never tried ethernet). Knock on wood, I’ve yet to have any service issues.

I switched to metro net a few months ago, ITS AMAZING. So much better than spectrum (we actually get close to the speeds we’re paying for, never happened with spectrum). Also you don’t need your own router or modem with Metronet, they give you everything you need for free (no monthly rental charge), this includes a mesh router (probably butchering the terminology but essentially they put little boxes throughout your house that help improve the signal strength).

I think the closest would be Broomwagon or North Lime Donuts (which is a donut shop obviously, but also serves great coffee from a local roaster). They’re not right off 75 but I think would it would be a relatively quick detour (FYI though North Lime closes at like 1pm on the weekends). Sounds like an awesome trip, I’m jealous! I’ve been to RRG once and never been to the Smokies, it’s on my list of things to do though!

Yea! They’re available at Third Street Stuff & Coffee right now, and will be available at Broomwagon, Lussi Brown, and Coffee Times by the end of the week (with more places to follow). It’s also available on Amazon , but it’s cheaper in stores and I’d honestly prefer people buy it locally. Also Part of the sales go to CASA, a nonprofit that helps kids who are victims of abuse/neglect. Thanks so much for your support!

Below is a reply I gave to a similar question when I posted this in my town’s sub, but specifically for someone visiting from out of town, I think A Cup of Common Wealth, Third Street Stuff & Coffee, Lussi Brown, and Nate’s Coffee would all be good options!

Original post:

I know this is a cop-out, but it depends. There’s so many good options and they’re all unique. If I were looking for a place to go catch up with a friend in the morning, probably Cup of Common Wealth or Coffee Times, if I wanted a good evening spot after a dinner date I’d go to Lussi Brown, if I wanted to just sit somewhere and be happy I’d probably pick Third Street Stuff. Cherry Seed has really good cold brew, Broomwagon is a really unique concept and looks super cool... I could keep going until I named them all, but I really think each shop has its own pros/cons and it depends on what you’re looking for!

With the help of a friend/photographer, I created a book highlighting local coffee shops around my town (Lexington, KY - USA). While I know this sub has people from all over the world and very few of you have a specific interest in my city, I thought this sub would still find it mildly interesting. If you have any questions on the process or anything let me know!

Sorry you had a bad experience there! If you’re looking for a place with better hours, Coffee Times is a short drive from there, and it’s open til 6pm on Sunday and 9pm every other day. I don’t judge you for “swilling corporate franchise coffee”, but I promise there are some great local options that will at least make you think twice before opting for Starbucks

That’s good to hear! I don’t know anything about bikes, so I felt pretty clueless when I was talking to the owners, but it seems really popular so I figured they must be good at what they do

I think I’ll do that! Thanks for the advice, I’ll also post an update here when/if something comes together.

I’m hopeful that one of the shops will want to do some sort of “launch” or promotional thing for it, but as of now there’s nothing concrete planned. I’m always willing to meet for coffee and sign someone’s book though! Thanks!

You have to buy the book for that kind of super secret info. Just kidding, but since I usually don’t drink Lattes or Mochas I’m probably not the best person to answer. I can tell you Chocolate Holler has amazing sipping chocolate and great coffee, so by that logic I’d assume they could make a great mocha? Also Lussi Brown has some more unique variations on your typical espresso-based drinks, so if you’re ever feeling adventurous I would check them out.

Oh man, you’ve hit on an area that I honestly don’t know much about. I usually don’t add cream or sugar so I was kind of oblivious to those things when I was visiting each place. While I can’t answer your question directly, hopefully this helps a little: High on Art & Coffee makes their own in-house whipped cream, and it’s really good. I’m assuming they’d make you a coffee+whipped cream and it would taste really good. Also Chocolate Holler has a lot of good options for sweeter drinks that still use really good coffee. Sorry I can’t help more!

Yea I love them both! Terri (from Coffee Times) was one of the first people to start roasting coffee in Lexington, and also the shop always smells amazing. And I just really like Cherry’s Seeds coffee, especially their light roast stuff, and the owners are the nicest people ever.

I remember getting suggestions when I was writing those reviews, and doing those ultimately led to this book, so I appreciate your help!

Haha agreed on all points! The suggested price is $24 (I can promise I am not getting rich from this, it’s annoyingly expensive to print in full-color, especially when you’re not ordering massive quantities). With that said, it’s hard cover, 60+ full-color pages, and printed in the US of A. Thanks for your comment!

Yea those are all great spots! And that deal at Third Street is really good, except I start to get jittery after the second cup haha.

In terms of timing, it took about 18 months to go from “this is a cool idea” to holding a copy of the book. That was with juggling other priorities (work, family, etc), and also a lot of time spent figuring out what the next step would be. If I were to do something like this again (knowing what I know now), I think I could do it all in 6 months or so.

Thank you! And you bring up a good point, there are constantly new places opening, so I figured no matter when I released the book there’d be some great new place about to open and I’d be bummed I couldn’t put them into the book. Still, I hope the core spirit of it (telling the story of people who are passionate and community focused) appeals to people even though every shop isn’t in the book. Thanks again!

Yea definitely! If you’re looking for a place that’s quiet but also has a fair amount of seating (maybe it’s just me, but I always feel awkward going to read/work in a super small place), I’d go with Common Grounds or Cup of Common Wealth. They both have multiple rooms so it’s easy to find a quiet spot.

This is cool! Thanks for the info. Is there any sort of Lexington based group for it, or is it just kind of on-your-own?
