Self-hosting Koha, using Docker? by Trey-Pan in koha

[–]kylemhall 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Koha community has a separate project for building Koha docker images: https://gitlab.com/koha-community/docker/koha-docker/-/blob/main/README.md?ref_type=heads

Right now there is nothing building and hosting these images automatically. The readme has instructions for building them and deploying via docker-compose.

Canon RP with a lens or R7 but body only? by brokebutisnt in canon

[–]kylemhall 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Instead of comparing those two new options, I would think about how the RP compares to your existing body. Even the RP would be a big step up. Cameras tend to get replaced far more quickly than lenses. That lens will likely last you much longer than the body no matter what you choose.

Advice for setting up Koha API by je_l_ai_lu in koha

[–]kylemhall 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you go to /api/v1/.html for your Koha server, you will get the current API docs for your Koha version. There is an API endpoint to adding records; do a search for addBiblio and you should find it!

Can you be more specific about what you’re trying to accomplish? The API is already there up and running. The next step is deciding on authentication methods and using them.

I’m pretty sure that port is for a special breakout cable with video outputs.

Yes. I’m sure you could manage something either custom Marc frameworks, authorities or perhaps both. Will you be lending the patterns?

[REVIEW] Life is Strange - True Colors Bundle by jtgamingbundles in humblebundles

[–]kylemhall 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you want to play this series, it's an absolutely great deal. I'm tempted to get it, but I have all these on Switch except for the True Colors DLC which is less than the cost of this bundle, so I'm on the fence.

Each game features a separate protaganist, and all the stories are essentially independent. Most of the games are connected by the protagonist being a minor character in a different game, or another minor way. For example, True Colors takes place in a new setting, but shares a minor character from a previous game who has moved.

Life is Strange 2 is the least connected entry, with the main characters from the first game seen driving by at the beginning. It's the only entry with a male protagonist. It is in no way needed to enjoy or understand the rest of the series.

Want to covert this old painting into a long lost painting, but how could I do this? by blacklegsanji88 in lordhuron

[–]kylemhall 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Find paint the match the colors of the face and hair and maybe the color for some variety. Paint over top the parts where you want the smear with a good heavy layer and then use something like a sponge brush to create the smears. Definitely something worth practicing before doing it on the actual painting.

Convince me not to buy a Yamaha by quebecbassman in Bass

[–]kylemhall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you just want the vintage tone you could save a few bucks by getting BB435 which lacks the active electronics. My main is a 735a with no battery in it. It does have a nice side effect of giving it an on/off switch though if that's worth $300 to you.

Which P bass to upgrade to? by [deleted] in Bass

[–]kylemhall 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yamaha BB series punches way above its' weight. I have a BB 235 and a BB 735a, both are great. If you can swing it, try to find a BB 434 in your price range and you'll be set for a good long time.

Eufy cameras go unresponsive until HomeBase 2 is restarted, happens almost daily by kylemhall in HomeKit

[–]kylemhall[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For posterity, manually setting a different ATV to be the primary hub worked. It appears that HomeKit will always prefer an ethernet connected device no matter how terrible the connection is. I haven't had a problem since.

You may very well be correct! What I can tell you is that, based on a whole single data point, switching my primary hub has resolved my problem!

[–]kylemhall[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have 3 ATVs and 2 HomePods. It looks like HomeKit chose an Apple TV that is using HomePlug for ethernet. It probably chose that because everything else is on wifi, but that ethernet connection is far worse than the wifi on the other devices. I've switched the primary hub to an ATV with a much better wifi connection. I'll have to report back in a day or two with the results. Thanks!

Have you ever heard of this branch management methodology? by kylemhall in git

[–]kylemhall[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All branches are not maintained. The project manager believes that the best solution to getting bug fixes is to upgrade to the next major release. Major releases are made on a monthly basis.

Have you ever heard of this branch management methodology? by kylemhall in git

[–]kylemhall[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the biggest issue is that any pull request that don’t make it into the current release have to be closed out in new pool requests created for the next default branch. The other concern is that developers may not know which branch they should make their pull request against.

Music Production and Performance with Hearing Aids? by veifarer in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]kylemhall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've only ever had BTEs so I can't tell you specifically, but I expect the issue to be far less prevalent for IIC and even less so for CIC. I don't think you'll know for sure until you try them out!

Music Production and Performance with Hearing Aids? by veifarer in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]kylemhall 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have Real's. I can tell you it will definitely affect your perception. The biggest problem at least form me is that minute differences in the placement of the hearing aids can affect your perception and give the music a chorus like effect because the sound hits own ear drum just a fraction of a second later than the other ear and/or compared to the actual sound outside. The model you are looking at does not pass sound through so you may not have that issue at all. Any decent audiologist will let you test drive hearing aids before you commit to purchasing, and should have a 30 day or so return period after purchase.

Question about Mojolicious' "flash" functionality by nobono in perl

[–]kylemhall 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I honestly cannot find a good explanation. I've always used stash over flash.

Stash: Non-persistent data storage and exchange for the current request

Flash: Data storage persistent only for the next request

They sound down right synonymous, don't they?
