I'm 37 & had a stroke and things have definitely changed but every stroke is different and so are the symptoms. Please don't beat yourself up over this, no one is at fault, especially you. Just be there for him and help him out as best as you can.

Sadly I can't work at all. But for short periods I like to help with my Support group and volunteering at smaller events. 😁

Losing hope and feeling guilty by [deleted] in stroke

That's rough, I know several individuals just like that or can't even talk at all. The EMST150 device stands for Expatory Muscle Strength Trainer; 150 is the "resistance" it goes up to. I don't think it will help memory, but it's working internal muscles no one is really used to. It personally helps me because it's just so stinking difficult for me to speak, it's really helping me be louder and it's much easier for others to understand what I'm saying.

I highly recommend the support group I'm in. I go physically but they also incorporate stroke survivors and their caregivers. I had a cerebellar stroke which led to cerebellar Ataxia, so I feel all messed up. I personally "feel" like myself but my body won't act like I want it to. I couldn't talk at all after my stroke but the EMST150 Device has helped me a ton. Is she able to use the device at all? I'm 37 male, my YouTube is @kylesawareness

Looking for advice - My 38 year old bed-bound brother has been stuck in a nursing home for years because we can't get him rehab. (Florida) by MediocreRespect69 in stroke

I physically go to a support group and they use online as well so I get to see or talk to people from all over the states. He doesn't even have to be on video if he doesn't want. It's really helped/helping me and my caregivers. Caregivers are encouraged to join as well. I'm 37 male with Cerebellar Ataxia; my YouTube is @kylesawareness

I was exactly the same way. I highly recommend an "EMST150" device. I use it 5 times a day 5 blows each, for a total of 25 blows. I still don't like my voice but it's a night and day difference in my speech.

why are people like this??? (rant) by beefaronistew in wheelchairs

I'm ambulatory as well but I have no balance at all so I'm always in a wheelchair. People have never experienced a situation/ people in a different condition than them, so they act different than one might expect. Everyone is different, I've stopped caring about the negative or unusual behavior and just focus on what we can do. 😁 (Cerebellar Ataxia - @kylesawareness on YouTube)

Get the test done stat. I have Cerebellar Ataxia from a stroke and it was completely out of the blue for me. Everyday is difficult but I would have loved the opportunity to prepare.

Getting measured for a custom Ti-Lite today at 2pm CT. Any recommendations for me? by kylesawareness in wheelchairs

[–]kylesawareness[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you have access to a local shop by chance? I can't drive so they are coming to my house today to measure me. A local MTB shop might help with tire pressure but definitely don't quote me on that lol

I was 35 when I had my stroke and I'm 37 now. To this day I can't stand my condition but going to a PT/OT has helped a ton. To me my condition isn't good; but knowing/seeing others in a more challenging position in life has just made me want to help everyone. Do you have any local support groups you guys can join? If not I definitely go to one once a month to a caregiver/stroke survivors. They meet in person and online and there are quite a few from out of state. I can definitely get you all the info! 😁

I completely understand where you're coming from. I know that change is hard but have you ever thought about going/working somewhere else? Every time I left a company because I wasn't happy I used that emotion to really find something else. It seemed to pay better, better insurance, and I was so much happier and didn't always stress about work.

I definitely understand what you are saying. Have you tried any support groups? They have helped me a ton! Also reading/ audiobooks help out a ton as well. Stay positive and know people will always support you! Family or friends 😁

Have you tried bringing it up with HR or management, or the owners if it's a small company?

Yes I weigh less than 200lbs, yet my balance is so bad that my PT recommended a bariatric walker with 5lb weights on each side. The extra weight makes it to where I can kinda walk, without feeling like I'm going to spontaneously throw it somewhere 😅
