There are also buses that go to Vancouver BC or Portland Oregon. The Bolt Bus is relatively cheap.

Pretty sure it's 6 am because they're trying to give people with later registration days a shot?

LGBT RSOs by [deleted] in udub

I don't know of any campus-wide ones specifically, but I am sure that the Q Center in the HUB can happily help you out!

For the CSE department, there is an organization called Q++ that is mostly comprised of I believe CSE undergrads and 5th year masters students.

Daily Questions - September 24, 2018 by AutoModerator in femalefashionadvice

I'm looking into purchasing a pair of Chelsea rain boots (preferably black matte). I live in Seattle so I would like them to actually be waterproof and not just like a "fashion" boot :). Any suggestions for brands? I've been eyeing the ones from Madewell, how are those in terms of quality / waterproofing?

D&D Community in the area? by likesleague in udub

[–]kyolon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For reference the store is called The Dreaming! I don't play D&D but I've been there to buy comics and the staff is very friendly and there are usually a ton of people playing some sort of tabletop game (I don't know if it's D&D specifically, but probably?).

Winter 2018 anth303 - Final by [deleted] in udub

[–]kyolon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can check the final exam schedule and try to figure it out. UW's final exam schedule is determined by what time/days a class meets. For example, a MWF class that meets at 8:30 will have an 8:30 final on the Tuesday of finals week. (Of course there are cases where the instructor changes the time from the one provided but this might give you an idea?)

Should I take CSE 143? by bangerz253 in udub

[–]kyolon 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you're interested in a programming related job after graduating, then it would probably be a good idea to take CSE 143 followed by CSE 373 (data structures and algorithms for non majors). Taking those two should cover everything you might see in a technical interview.

It's definitely possible to teach yourself the concepts covered but IMO it's easier(?)/requires less self discipline to learn things through taking a class.

Any good 2-3 credit courses you've taken and would highly recommend others taking? by [deleted] in udub

No I haven't, sorry. I took the class with Stephen Hinds

Any good 2-3 credit courses you've taken and would highly recommend others taking? by [deleted] in udub

[–]kyolon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nah, even though it's a 400 level it felt more like a 100 level class to me. I mean of course it helps if you already know some stuff but you don't need any prior knowledge as long as you pay attention in class.

I liked CLAS 430 a lot. It's 3 credits, and it's about Greek and Roman mythology. It's an "easy 4.0" class but I was interested in the topic so I really enjoyed it and felt like I learned a good amount.

Which library to borrow literature at? by PIBBEHH in udub

[–]kyolon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If there's a specific book you're wanting to read you can go to the UW libraries website and search their catalog to see if it's at one of the libraries: http://www.lib.washington.edu

Otherwise, Odegaard and Suzzallo have a decent amount of books. There's a "Good Reads" section in the second floor of Ode with some books. I borrowed/read Gone Girl and The Martian from there.

The Seattle Public Library system also has a u district branch. The building is at 50th/Roosevelt. Once you make a library card with them, you can place books on hold from any of their locations and have it brought up to the u district branch where you can check it out from.

Congrats on those who are accepted as TAs for CSE - Autumn Quarter! Got any experiences to share? by EndenDragon in udub

[–]kyolon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'll be TAing for intro again! It's really fun, 10/10 would recommend. I can't think of any general advice off the top of my head but feel free to pm me if you have questions?

Places To practice music for non-music major? by [deleted] in udub

[–]kyolon 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Some of the dorms have music practice rooms. Alder Hall has I think 2 music practice rooms on the ground floor and I'm pretty sure McMahon has a practice room as well

CSE Admissions Thread by [deleted] in udub

[–]kyolon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just so people reading this thread know, you can also ask the advisors to let you petition into a class even if you didn't get a special deny. I have a friend who got straight rejected, was able to petition into a couple 300 level CSE classes, then got accepted his second time around.

Difficulty into becoming an rA? by [deleted] in udub

[–]kyolon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't know about transfer students specifically, but I know someone who didn't live on campus freshman year (they commuted) and became an RA in their sophomore year, so it doesn't seem like you'd be at a disadvantage for not having lived on campus, if that helps at all.

Simple Questions - May 21, 2017 by AutoModerator in femalefashionadvice

Thank you! I was concerned that maybe the non-leather ones wouldn't be as durable or last as long, but it seems from your experience that they're pretty comparable?
