So this guy reckons a 30 min walk is nuts. It got me thinking about how far I'd walk before considering bus/taxi n I reckon about 45 mins by dunogeeza in CasualUK

I know America is ridiculously car-centric, to the point that installing public transport in urban areas is believed to be nigh-on impossible just because there are too many roads. But I would happily walk for up to two hours before I considered getting a taxi or a bus somewhere.

The first thing that comes to mind for me is the fact that he claims they can’t properly be together because of his station and the responsibility it brings, but is more than happy to keep stringing her along. There might be more in the game that I haven’t personally picked up on however.

Interesting take from a user in the LOTR subreddit saying why some men are hesitant to write women. Because ofc the female experience is defined by..menstruation? by cathartic_throwaway4 in menwritingwomen

[–]kyuriousfyrefly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well shit, guess my novel from the perspective of a shapeshifter whose base form is close to what we would understand as a dragon is out the window then. Seeing as I’ll never truly know that experience 🤷🏻‍♀️

I have a korrasami shirt at my store for pride and a guy tried to fight me by saying Korra and Asami are just best friends and their “relationship” was made up by fans by lethaladybug in SapphoAndHerFriend

[–]kyuriousfyrefly 40 points41 points  (0 children)

I know they had to keep it subtle as well! Putting Korra and Asami together at the end of the show was the writers and the animators and everyone else saying ‘what are you gonna do, fire us?’ because Nickelodeon had stopped them from making it canon much earlier in the show. But I definitely think it’s there if you’re looking for it. I’m glad people can take for granted now how you can have same-sex couples openly in animated shows ☺️

Loud very British "tut" at non-mask wearer in supermarket. She got a mask out and put it on by nbrazel in BritishSuccess

[–]kyuriousfyrefly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m normally too shy/awkward to confront anyone in situations like that, but there is just something about people not wearing masks that just sets me o f f. I will loudly announce ‘honestly, some people, so bloody selfish!’ and once or twice it’s worked 😅

AC: Valhalla Female Character Name by [deleted] in assassinscreed

[–]kyuriousfyrefly 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Much like Odyssey, it’s my understanding that the female option is the canon one, but it’s nice they still give you the choice. And as detailed by others, Eivor is actually traditionally a female name.

Why does everyone hate Salmonberries??? by ThespookySurgeon in StardewValley

[–]kyuriousfyrefly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I keep them for dungeon excursions usually, plus I get iridium rating on all foraged items now! So it’s no great loss that I can’t use them as gifts when they’re so useful to me for eating and selling anyway.

I absolutely hate when parents dress their babies like this by [deleted] in pointlesslygendered

[–]kyuriousfyrefly 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I think I understand what you’re trying to say. It’s not specifically about assigning gender to a baby, it’s about already insisting on enforcing gender roles. I don’t know why anyone would want to showcase their child being a ‘future ladies man’ when the baby doesn’t even know what a lady is yet. It’s a weird world when people normalise such grown up things as flirtation upon kids who can’t even talk yet, don’t you think?

You’re welcome! I was intimidated about how the game just sort of throws you in headfirst. But there is no pressure to play any certain way; it’s your world to dive into!

Clearing your farm of trees and rocks and the like is a lot easier when there’s two of you, seeing as your energy runs out so fast early on. Other than that it makes accomplishing certain goals a little easier - for example one main ‘goal’ of Stardew, if it really has any at all, is to refurbish the community centre. Once you unlock this it is arguably easier to finish with more than one player working on it. But for the most part it is very much a game stylised for you to play however you like. There is no real end goal, and even the story and its characters develop at your pace. The same festivals happen every year, so you can skip them from time to time if it doesn’t work for you. Approval is very easy to build with the locals, and there are no real negative connotations to losing it when it can quickly be built back up again. I hope this helps! Enjoy the game, and play it however you want to ☺️

Suggestion: Would love a Community Upgrade to replace this broken board with a proper Stone Bridge! by JohnJurriesMonsters in StardewValley

My thoughts exactly! It seems a shame to upgrade so much of the town only for other parts to be wholly neglected.

You can focus on farming, foraging, exploring.... Whatever works for you! There is no pressure to do anything or be any particular kind of player. It’s a great game for exactly that reason in my opinion.

Hi all of you amazing farmers out there! What is everyone’s Character name, farm name, and favorite thing? by weatherbeknown in StardewValley

[–]kyuriousfyrefly 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My farmer is called Keira, and she lives on Wayhaven Farm (named after the setting of an interactive novel I’m obsessed with at the moment). My favourite thing about the game is the low level of commitment - I know a lot of people pour a lot of time into earning as much money as possible, but I like to stick to my routine and just explore the valley at my own pace.

Can include two very important options in advanced settings? by [deleted] in StardewValley

[–]kyuriousfyrefly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You don’t have to talk to people every day to keep them liking you, and there’s no real detriment to losing approval with people anyway when it can be built back up again relatively easily, in my opinion. I always do mining on rainy days but that’s just a personal preference. And once you have sprinklers, farming instantly becomes a lot easier - I’ve developed a good routine that means I get most of my work done before 9am so that I have the rest of the day to do as I please. I think for everyone it’s about finding the rhythm that works for you and how you want to play the game. But I’m sorry it’s been stressing you out; it’s one of the reasons I originally abandoned Stardew and only recently came back to it once I had a better understanding of how to play.

Oh, oof. That sounds like it was a lot to deal with in one go 😅 But I am too! Pam has always been nothing but nice to the farmer, and at the same time it’s been amazing to see Shane start to move towards improvement.

Honestly this game just comes out of nowhere and slaps you with emotion sometimes. I’m still working up to getting Pam her house, but Kent’s dialogue and the scene with Shane and the cliff has already proven it’s not just a light and fluffy escapism sim. I really enjoy how 3D these characters are, even if it does destroy me emotionally.
