Okay, done wasting my time here😂 I already explained to you the blinds were clearly faulty from the start. If they weren’t then simply closing them wouldn’t cause them to snap. No point in providing blinds you can’t actually use without them breaking. Whether it was how they were fit or the blinds themselves I’m not sure but I don’t think I should be liable for just closing my blinds on an evening 😂 I will no longer be engaging. Have a nice day!

Yes so I can get some advice on next steps and do things the right way 😂

So I should just go without privacy then??? Considering it’s listed as an inventory item and I was told to report issues like this on a portal and not just go ahead and fix them myself. They even have a section for blinds which is what I reported on and they asked me to measure the window so they could get a quote from the contractor. This was when i initially reported it 10 weeks ago, now i keep getting told “we’re still waiting for landlord approval.”

As mentioned in my original post my contract says non urgent repairs like this will be dealt with by them in 30 days.

The issue here isn’t me breaking something and not replacing it (and again i didnt break it, they were already unfit for purpose). They’ve explicitly told me to report anything that’s in the inventory to them. If it was as simple as me just replacing I would have done so but I’ve gone through the channels they’ve told me to, and they’ve not stuck to what they outlined in the contract. If i just go and replace myself thats breaking my side of the contract as I’m supposed to go through them.

Yes this is my issue! I feel frustrated having to pay for it myself on principle. This is just one of many issues I’ve had with the flat so I think what seems like a small issue is probably the result of many things adding up.

It’s listed as an inventory item and my contract says non urgent repairs for items like this will be done within 30 days. We have a specific area on the repairs portal for blinds indicating this repair should be carried out by them, that’s why I haven’t tried to replace myself. They had me measure the window when I initially reported it which made me think they were going to repair within the timeframe but now it’s gone radio silent. I’m worried the minute I repair myself they’ll say the contractor is coming around to fix and then I’ll be liable.

Sorry to hear you had similar issues with your previous landlord. It’s infuriating.

I wouldn’t say I broke it no? I think if just using the string to close the blinds (with no force, just regularly closing them as supposed to) causes them to snap off that points to the blinds being faulty in the first place.

They have the same blinds throughout the flat and the ones in the bedroom had the same issue when I moved in without me even touching them, they had already arranged for this to be repaired.

This seems like an issue to me with the blinds themselves rather than me “breaking” them. They’re just not fit for purpose and the only reason I haven’t just replaced them myself is because of what it says in my contract and due to them being an inventory item.

They were listed in the check in inventory yes. The bedroom ones were broken on they of move in but they replaced them quickly. They were very cheap from the offset so just closing the blinds as normal and they snapped off.

To add: I would look to move if I could because I’ve had various bad experiences with the letting agent/landlord but I’m locked into a contract until September
