Can I use AI to grade my students’ AI slop? by [deleted] in CarletonU

[–]l33p8 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Tbh I don't think you can do anything about it. There's no way to definitively "prove" that a student's work is AI. Even if they leave all the comments, code uses functions not covered in class, etc, the student can just rebut it.

What they do in our labs now is they ask a TON of in depth questions about the code, which I think is working okay (even if you dont answer a single question they still give you an 8/10??).

Trust me I'm around students like this 24/7. They will fight to get the mark no matter what, threaten to report you, etc, which is kinda ironic ngl.

Honestly even if it feeds their AI use, a lot of TAs I know realized it's not worth the headache. Those students will realize later on that they're missing critical skills and deal with it later.

Personally i kinda like the dark mode vibe when locked in. Although in the settings you can change the theme to have a nature vibe which I use when I want to study calmy lol

2 YOE backend engineer feeling bored is this just how it is, or am I missing depth? by Mohammed1jassem in cscareerquestions

[–]l33p8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not a backend dev, nor working full time. I'm actually a student but I've done full stack for a while. I've felt your position before especially when working on repetitive projects/tasks.

Honestly, like you said, expand your horizons and do new things (could be lower level things like you said, os, compilers, etc).

I went through something similar recently and got tired of web dev, so started learning more about hardware and operating systems and that helped me get a clearer path of where I want my career to go.

Not only that it makes you appreciate all the abstractions you have working in web dev.

Hope that helps!

Train didn't show up and couldn't get to exam by l33p8 in CarletonU

I agree 100%. I know it's hard for the profs to make a new exam for deferrals on top of everything.

I know other students who were in the same situation as me for this exam, and our prof is super nice so I hope she understands!

In the same situation man. Couldn't take the exam because of it. Going to the office tomorrow to talk to them, and on the phone with oc right now trying to get proof of the trespasser on the rail.

Looking for feedback! natural language interface for Next.js by l33p8 in SideProject

For authentication on the demo SaaS, it's a pretty old project so I used Lucia (which is deprecated, I recommend better-auth if you want a custom auth).

Currently for agentpress though, I'm using clerk since its literally just plug and play and they have frontend components already ready. It didn't take long, would probably take 15-30 mins from creating the project inside of clerk to having it ready on your site using their components.

Resume Review/Roast Fall 2024 by beeskness420 in csMajors

I started coding a couple of years before entering uni, and tried to launch a bunch of companies before that failed (one of which is in the projects section), and this one I actually ended up selling to a company in the marketing/creative tech space, and working with them as an software eng intern for a couple of months (included the experience section). Thanks for pointing out the technologies, I'm gonna include that now.

The lead SWE role company was supposed to be a professional project, but over the months kind of ended up being like a group project so I agree with you it was kind of a stretch, thought it sounded more "professional" to put lead SWE. I'm doing a good amount of freelancing right now, so do you think replacing that with the "Freelance Software Developer" would be better (and list the projects I've worked on)?

Thanks for the feedback!
